Description
Just a bunch of ideas

10 youngsters, UFAs and trade acquisitions in that 26-28 yrs old range (Burakovsky, Vanicek, Dvorak)

and getting youngsters playing time to develop without having to shoulder load of production and most of the guys young enough to bridge the gap until the youngsters "arrive".

Very conscious of solid vet-youngster defensive pairings and having a forward corp with speed and some phtysicality

Calgary will make you a much better offer for Couts (not that he will ever waive his NMC once it kicks in)

Zary + Valimaki + 1st + Monahan as a base?

I doubt Montreal has any interest at all in moving futures when they are rebuilding

You're not wrong, the diff between Dvorak and Couts is a solid RD prospect (PHI would have jiricek and Barron) and some later round picks, but maybe MTL doesn;t move (but I think a Suzuki, Couts, number 1 pick down the middle is a great team)

Always have a space for nice prospect in Zary and a 1st, but not sure Valimaki adds much (good youngster, just not sure where he'd fit: in the above I've moved Sanheim to give York 2LD time and acquired solid vet 3 LD to partner with youngster at RD). So while I think Valimaki has a NHL future, just not sure he is as "valued" in Philly where they have ample young LD, (right now: Provorov, Sanheim, York and both Zamula/Hogberg looked good in limited time).

And while I think a healthy Monahan is just as good, if not better, than Dvorak, I think the health/cap/contract length diff between Dvorak and Monahan works against CGY.

Maybe Zary, a 1st (or maybe a 2nd), Dube and Monahan (if PHI can get a 3rd party to retain and Monahan is healthy) would work. PHI would need a roster player (Dube or Monahan) and then Zary/the pick work for futures, but ultimately Couterier has good value and the pieces would have to work.

Couldn;t talk you into some kind of Tkachuk rights for Couterier?

Finally! someone else understands Couts is not the future and trading him while he still has value! Great job!

I understand what you want for Couts I just completely disagree with the logic behind Montreal doing it. First off they already need to be looking at replacing Petry (likely traded) and Weber (likely done playing now or soon). Barron is a great start for that. Not to mention they are drafting Shane Wright who is a strong 2-way center prospect for that same and potentially better 1-2 punch down the middle.

Valimaki is under the pretense that you are moving Sanheim like you did above. Even if not until the deadline it can allow you to run York on the 1st line on the Phantoms for a while. Valimaki also has a much higher ceiling than both Zamula and Hoberg. I would be open to moving Dube instead but I would probably want more balancing.

It's very likely Monahan will be healthy next season. He can also be flipped at the deadline if he puts up results.

Yeah no offense but Couts is a non-starter for Tkachuk

Kings need to add a lot

Caps offer is a definite no from Philly. Fed could easily be the best player in that deal by a lot

Exactly, Vanceks celling as a fringe starter, Fedotov has elite potential, if things don't work out trade him, but give him time and the flyers could have the best goalies in the league

That would be a pretty easy pass from MTL.

Couturier is a good player (or atleast was one before his almost season long injury) but that is a terrible contract on a player we dont need. I would much rather have Suzuki and Wright as the top 2 Cs in Mtl over the next 8 years than a 30 year old SC.

With the number of assets being offered the habs could pretty easily get a better younger player who fits our needs more

Don't think Kings do that for 1 year of Sanheim.

Caps give up a third and vanacek for the privilege of paying a fourth liner 3 mil and a goalie prospect that is a year younger than vanacek and may never come over to the NHL??

Sorry bro. Barron's a no go. Not withstanding his potential as a top-4 puck moving RHD, he's the only prospect we have playing the position who hasn't committed a felony.

Habs are rebuilding. They won't be spending assets to acquire older players. Hughes has stated this, or some form of it, on multiple occasions.

Montreal is not trading good futures (especially Barron) plus Dvorak for a veteran center on a long term contract with injury issues. And I like Couturier a lot. But Montreal is rebuilding and already has a lot of money tied up in vets, there's zero chance they'd be interested unless it was deal built around Gallagher. They're rebuilding and will hopefully find their center partner for Suzuki in this draft (Wright or Cooley) or the next one.

Kings aren't trading a potential top-6 winger for one year of Sanheim, even granting what a good player Sanheim is.
