I dont know why anaheim would make that trade - defense isn't their strong part and this is a solid dee man early in his career.

Not in terms of trade value. It's a gross overpay for the Leafs as Sandin can play both sides and might just be as good or better than Drysdale, not to mention Nylander is the best player in that trade as of now.



They probably wouldn't want to move Drysdale who they envision as part of their future core, however Sandin should be a capable replacement that can play both sides, and they get the best player in the deal even if he's a two year rental (he only has a M-NTC in the final year, so they can flip him for more)

Why not throw Muzzin in for 10OA

Ok lets start with the bolded. That is not remotely true, Drysdale is 2 years younger and already the clearly better player. Not to mention he is a RD, not a LD. Sandin played like 5 games with Rielly on the right side and he was awful there.

As for total value in a vacuum. Sure it does favor Anaheim. But tell me right now that you think the Ducks are contending in the next 2 years before Nylander walks

Two years of Nylander which expires just when Anaheim can reasonably expect to be contending in exchange for a career of Jamie Drysdale would be awful asset management -- absolutely, abysmally awful. The possibility that Sandin might turn out to be more valuable than Comtois is balanced out by the difference in the draft picks. This is a TERRIBLE deal for Anaheim.
