fwiw i still dont see any motion from marchand where he thrusts his stick in a spearing motion, does her turn his body and the stick catches kotkaniemi? i think you could say yeah but i dont see a true spear from the videos ive seen.

Man it's BM - he can wield that stick like no other.
He gave KK the ultra-slightest of jabs. He wasn't trying to put him in the hospital.

Cagey great vet as he is tho - he was telling him to back-off pee-wee and bring your balls, and purse to game 7...

Its such a weird rule as in rule 3.6 what Point did is against that rule, but then in 9.6 its partially accepted

NHLPA or whoever is in charge might need to rectify the rules as when 2 rules collide with one another it can get confusing

As I believe Marner pointed it out in relation to 3.6 but Refs used 9.6 as the basis.

??? In the 2022 rulebook, there is no rule 3.6. (Only 3.1 and 3.2, neither of which are relevant to this scenario.)
The only one I see that's relevant is 9.6:

"A player on the ice whose helmet comes off during play shall be assessed a minor penalty if he does not exit the playing surface, or retrieve and replace his helmet properly on his head (with or without his chin strap fastened), within a reasonable period of time."

Since Point's helmet didn't come off, there was no problem with the chin strap alone being undone.

Oh they took it out

As this was the rule I was referring to which was in the 2020-2021 ruleset

If a (player participates without their chinstrap fastened), play shall be stopped immediately, regardless of which team is in possession of the puck, and the offending player shall be assessed a Minor penalty for Ineligible Player.

Honestly this rule should be applied to rule 9.6

Ref's are deaf-dumb-blind but they sure beat robots.
No real harm/foul last night - 4min of rest - game was in the books...

In the same rule (9.6), it says that if a player comes onto the ice (be it from the bench or penalty box) with his chinstrap undone, it's a penalty. However, if the chinstrap becomes undone while the player is still on the ice, it's not a problem.

Why there's a difference, I have no idea. But nevertheless, there is (and as such, the refs got it right).

This isn’t the popular take but Trouba should not be playing tonight. It is less about the fluke incident with Crosby than it is about the blatant elbow to Guentzel at the beginning of the game and the history he has of going high on MacKinnon and Khaira. Malkin also should be out for the cross check given his history

Hedman’s hit officially knocked him out but it was Steckel unloading a total cheap shot in the Winter Classic that really started all of this. Until the league takes the head contact seriously and comes up with a legitimate disciplinary code for high hits this will continue. Trouba should be out tonight and I do not care that it wasn’t intentional. He plays a reckless game and has a history of going high. That should be enough for him to miss a game.

eh yes and no. Elbow on Guentzel is kind of intentional and not malicious suspension based on things we've seen earlier this round max fine would be agreeable.

Isn't that clarified? I mean I understand if someone doesn't like it, but it's clarified. If it happens on the ice, it's ok. If it happens before you get on the ice it's not ok.

Strange Coincidence

NHL Goals averages
2021-22: 3.14
2020-21: 2.94

2019-20: 3.02
2018-19: 3.01
2017-18: 2.97
2016-17: 2.77

2015-16: 2.71
2014-15: 2.73

2016-17: 30 NHL teams
2017-18: 31 NHL teams
Scoring went up by 0.20

2020-21: 31 teams
2021-22 32 teams
Scoring went up by 0.20

Scoring still went up by 0.12 from 2019-20 (last "full" NHL season) to 2021-22

Coincidence: With every new team being added into the league, there has been an big increase in scoring.

sure, but why have 2 separate rules based on circumstances when you can make the same rule apply for both?

I wonder if that's because other teams just get weaker by default as they lose assets for free (expansion draft).

Then again, unlike Seattle, Vegas did not suck their first year in the league.

Capitals are optimally hit or miss, but I'm like 95% sure this will be a 1-2 goal game either way.

Sheary is on the first line and they always click well. McMichael has play great to fill in for Wilson. Mantha bring physical game.

We need to get puck on net and get bounces and get oshie in front. That’s what going to win this game
