The picks were probably wishful thinking, but overall Habs get the better end of the deal in the long run

Retaining 3M is just too much even if we get Provy. I would rather remove the other parts of the deal and do 1 vs 1 and simply throw in a pick/prospect.. Petry+4th for JVR+prospect.

You have it listed as $3, not $3m... I honestly wasn't sure if you were going for 3m, or it was a typo, or what... I can't see Montreal retaining anything, especially if they're eating JVRs monster contract

Yep fair enough but it won't be at 3M retained. IF retention is done, I'm thinking it will be equivalent to the amount that can be stashed in the minors (1.125m). Anything higher and the Habs are better served keeping Petry. The need to move him has kind of subsided a little as he stated in his year end presser that he's open to staying now since his family can easily travel from the states to Canada without restrictions anymore.

Montreal was not going to do this deal (even without Provorov/Anderson). Habs already said they aren't moving Petry unless the deal made sense for both sides. Since this deal makes 0 sense for the Habs because they already have WAAAAAYYYY too many wingers and almost 0 RHD or RGD prospects it does NOT work for the Habs. Also hearing Petry's and Hughes' exit interviews their is mutual interest in Petry returning to Montreal next season. He now just has to sell it to his wife and family, which is just one more reason this trade does not work and is not going to happen. Also Montreal retaining 3 mil x 3 years is preposterous since Hughes already said he is NOT retaining on Petry because he is still a top 4 D man and worth his contract.

Those Philly reporters are just wistfully thinking they can swap a horrible monster contract with a top 4 RHD and not have to give anything up in return. Imagine if I offered you Gallagher + Romanov + 4th for Provorov + Konecny + 2nd and asked you to retain half on Provotov. Would you do that? No cause it is ridiculous!

That offer isn’t even remotely similar. MTL gets the best player in the deal I made, and wins long term.
And yeah, those rumours came from Canada before philly

3. It does not change the facts outlined above. Hughes is NOT retaining, will not move petry unless it makes sense and this deal has us trading a position of weakness for a position of strength.

When I said the deal wasn't what we would be looking for I was referring to the reported deal of JVR for Petry, not your adjusted deal.

OK? Still dont see how that makes sense from Montreal given what it wouldcosta 3rd party to retain. It's not even clear if Petry still wants out given his great 2nd half, looser restrictions in Montreal and his exit interview yesterday.

There was never a rumor of Montreal retaining $3,000,000 on Petry. It was basically Petry for JVR and a couple smaller pieces. Besides Philly is on Petry's no trade list and they've already said that he wont waive to go there.

Where did you hear Philly was on his NTC? Rumour had a high prospect and salary retention, no one ever said how much but I assumed 3M based on who I thought they’d ask for

Saw it on Spector Hockey Eric Engles and the French insider for the Canadiens had mentioned it. And there's no freaking way Ken Hughes is retaining 50% on Petry for the supposed ask.

That’s fair, the entire rumour seemed off.
Why would the Habs want JVR?
Why would Philly want Petry?
Why would MTL retain?
Why would Philly give up a top prospect for a declining player when they are in such a bad position as is?

Hughes had one of the best trade deadlines this year, Fletcher got his butt kicked in deals… I wouldn’t expect Fletcher to get an offer like that, just confused where these rumours came from and why they had traction if Philly was part of his list.

Truthfully, if a deal goes down, I want Edmundson, love watching him in his own zone
