Coaching change -> Paul Kariya (aware that devils are probably the absolute last team he'd coach for)

You're way off on both, also that trade makes it tougher for Edmonton to resign everybody cause Puljujarvi will cost less than Wood and Zacha combined.

Yeah I mean, this is mostly a "Ken Holland is an idiot" trade. I know Oilers fans won't like it.

I think you're about a mile and a half off on that Girard trade. Guy plays almost 22 productive minutes a night for Colorado, and is signed to a great deal long term. Blackwood's value has plummetted, Johnsson has been more productive this year, but still, he's a bottom 6 forward there signed for 1 year, and the 3rd doesn't really add much value tbh.

I thought the Avs were looking to move him due to the emergence of Byram and the slide in his play this season?

With Kuemper being a UFA, I figured a starter (when healthy), mid-6 depth for 1.7M, and a pick would be something that makes sense to them

That “report” was baseless speculation from someone with a media credential and was refuted almost immediately by Pierre LeBrun. Avs aren’t looking to move Girard and if they did it would be for a top 6 forward of a similar age/contract. He’s much more than a 3rd pairing guy like you have on your roster. This trade isn’t close IMO.

The Avs cleared their defensive prospect pool this TDL and are up close to the cap. That just makes a top 3 defenseman on a good contract all the more valuable.

Probably shouldve stayed in the box on the COL trade.
COL traded away their young D prospects at the TDL (Hellenson/Barron), they arent moving another 22 y/o D man with term for a project goaltender and a rental depth forward

I mean, I'm not an Avs fan, but my understanding was that Girard's name was floated by a Avs beat reporter when Byram was starting out this fall, and was dismissed pretty quickly everywhere but here. I mean, there could have even been a bit of logic to it, but then they traded their near-NHL-ready D prospects at the deadline. They're a contender, and subtracting would make zero sense.

A couple of years down the road when Byram and Mack need extensions it might be something to consider, but the ask for him would very likely make you blush.

Project is an interesting way of putting it lol He's an average-at-worst starter when he's healthy. He's being traded because of a rift in the relationship with the Devils. But sure. Seems I misread the situation with Colorado.

bring back Bad Boy Devils bring in Patty Roy to coach and just get a goon squad of 4th liners to protect Hughes, Hischer, and Hamilton. Just beat down on opponents. As the East gets more and more skilled based an anticipatory pendulum swing can get you ahead of the rest. Just look at teams like Boston and Pittsburgh they get out-physicalled when they play big teams

Ken Holland isn't a winning the trade guy, he is big picture. The guy is cleaning up on undrafted free agent signings and drafting prospects.

Don't get me wrong, I respect that. But he's got two of the best players in the world right now. He should probably just do whatever he can to win a cup immediately.
Though in that context I don't accept this trade, if I'm him lol

His signings have mostly been good. Kane, Ceci, Barrie, Puljujarvi and Yamamoto are all on fantastic contracts. Hyman was a great addition. The Kulak trade is looking good too, he's really playing well. He hasn't been perfect, but the good outweighs the bad for sure.

I think edmonton will make a run in the playoffs this year depending on if they can beat Calgary in the second round. Next year they will be first in the pacific and the following year when Broberg is a second pairing dman will be their time to win and go all in.

Wrong.

Then I'm pretty shocked you like the Kane, Ceci, Hyman, and Yamamoto deals. When looking as GAR from EH and using an "average" baseline, only Barrie and Puljujarvi, of the ones you've mentioned, are above average.

Why do you think he isn't? He fired his coach mid season for the first time ever, he's surrounded McDavid and Draisaitl with more talent than the Oilers have had since the Eighties, he made serious runs at every top free agent and called on every player on the trade board.

Because they're 13th in the league in xGF% and 20th in the league in goals saved above expected despite having the best player in the world and another one in the top 5.

Duhatschek had Zacha for Puljujarvi straight up in February.
Now, he added Wood and a 2nd? what's happened in last 6 weeks?

Devils decline Puljujarvi deal
Avalanche decline Girard deal

Like the outside the box thinking though

Duhatschek was being an idiot. Even if Holland is foolish, it's gonna cost more than just Zacha.
