Teams don't want bad cap and pay for it. Now Arizona might take Drouin and Weber for "cap floor purposes" but the Habs aren't getting anything in return except ridding themselves of Drouin's contract for a year

We have three RDs on the team that are 24, 23, and 20 years old. Why on earth would we want to replace one of them with a 34 year old player on a three year contract that cannot even be bought out? Petry has three times as many giveaways/60 as the worst of the three we have, he also have less than half the number of takeaways/60 as the worst of the three we have.

Detroit wouldn't even want Petry if Montreal paid us to take him.

He makes over 6 million for 3 more years. Please show me where Yzerman has taken on such a deal as GM of Detroit? Yzerman has spoken of flexibility and this goes directly against his words.

Wings have Calder hopeful in Seider and cheaper and younger player in Hronek. Makes zero sense to take on player who is older, makes 6 million and has 3 more years.

In general this makes zero sense for Wings and for Habs they rid themselves of older player on semi big contract with 3 more years left.

Yeah Detroit passes on Petry, Eric Engles is heavily linking him to the Flyers anyways. Philly can have him.
