With the season that Pettersson is having, I'd consider doing a 1st + Kempe for him. No chance would I include Clarke.

Canucks fans, on behalf of all Minnesota fans, stop trading fiala to us. We will keep fiala, whose the more dynamic and cheaper player along with our 2nd round pick

Rutherford isn't dealing both Boeser or Miller it's one or the other not both. And Pettersson isn't getting dealt. And you can't retain 2 years @ 50% on Quinn Hughes and 1 year @ 50% on Conor Garland it has to be for the full length of the contract.

Well I really like Quinn Hughes but TO has more LD players than they know what to do with. I'd pass on this cause I'd feel guilty taking it

No appreciation of Rangers, Wild, Leafs cap. You can't retain for just parts of the contracts. Sorry "teardown" just doesn't work when it involves trading high cap players to teams that can't afford the cap or doesn't want the non value players.

Welcome to CF. Real quick, you cannot pick how many years you want to retain on a deal. If you retain, you retain on all of it. That out of the way, why on Earth would the Canucks do such a kaiju-sized favor for a division rival?

How do you retain for a year on Boeser when his contract ends in 3 months?

Regardless, this is a no from the Wild. Fiala is the better player, there's no reason for us to swap the two, let alone add a 2nd.

Fiala is over a P/GP since Boldy came up, meaning that you'd have to absolutely blow Minnesota's doors off to get them to move him in season. That retention is not even in the not enough category. It's irrelevant. And having to add a 2nd rounder? Yeah, that's not happening.

And then you have to also remember Minnesota's cap situation in the future, which is precisely why Fiala is even in trade rumors. ie: Brock won't cost any less on an extension, making this trade make even less sense from Minnesota's perspective

Also, salary retention isn't moldable. You can't pick and choose how many/which years retain x amount of dollars against the cap for. You can retain up to 50% but only for the remaining years on the current deal.

Yup. If we're having questions about being able to fit $6.5-7 million for Fiala's contract, there's no way we're adding a player whose QO is $7.5 million. This trade amounts to us paying to make our cap problem worse.

LMAO, don't you remember? The rules have changed! For qualifying an RFA, the QO is either the base salary of their final contract or 15% more than the AAV of their contract, whichever number is lower. Petey's QO is only 8.81M

I hadn't heard that, but after researching, it's apparently 20%, not 15%.

Yeah, somewhere in that percentage range. Truth is, Petey's QO isn't a huge worry right now
