Fiala is over a P/GP since Boldy came up, meaning that you'd have to absolutely blow Minnesota's doors off to get them to move him in season. That retention is not even in the not enough category. It's irrelevant. And having to add a 2nd rounder? Yeah, that's not happening.
And then you have to also remember Minnesota's cap situation in the future, which is precisely why Fiala is even in trade rumors. ie: Brock won't cost any less on an extension, making this trade make even less sense from Minnesota's perspective
Also, salary retention isn't moldable. You can't pick and choose how many/which years retain x amount of dollars against the cap for. You can retain up to 50% but only for the remaining years on the current deal.
