Another delusionnal trade involving Petry and Dallas.

If a team was offering something like that, Petry would be already gone.

No team is offering something close to that.

Hughes should just tell him to play hockey and stop whining and maybe you could unload him during the off season.

i think Guri is worth a second round pick and a third Petry is worth a second so the value is there so i wouldnt call it delusional especially with Klingberg gone

The problem is that only Montreal fans think Petry is worth a 2nd. If he was worth that, someone would have traded for him already.

Bc they salary cap exists, that is too much money tied up in fwds, a limited 3rd defensive winger and aging injury prone winger starting to decline with too much term for a legit cost controlled young top 4 dman

Nothing about that is good for the avs.

Petry = 34 years old, still 3 years on his bad contract (that carry a limited NTC) after this year, declining performances and lastly, poor leadership. He is lucky the the Bell Center is empty. He would not like the "special" treatment he would get.

If Dallas thinks that they can make the PO and make noise after, then they should simply keep Klingberg and take their chances with him during the off season.

If Dallas do not think that they will make the PO, then it makes no sense at all to get Petry and they should just trade Klingberg.

Girard is as good as people say, He has the same underlying numbers as Chychurn and Heiskenen. Are you moving those guys for a over paid defensive winger and 30 year old injury prone winger who has a bad contract.

    No you wouldnt

and no Toews or Byram arent getting moved either. I dont really think you have a good pulse on the avs and their needs or their cap situation

Im saying avs arent trading a. young legit top 4 dman for an older player who has injury issues.
I am not saying he has no value, I am saying he doesnt have value to the avs in a trade for Girard, they dont want that older injury prone player with that type of term.

Unless they are getting a similar age, Top 6 fwd who as much term and value in his contract....unless they are getting someone like that, as example Batheson in Ottawa, they arent moving him for older players going into the decling years of their career.

Girard is not available either, hes not being shopped. SO why are you trying to hard to move him for stuff

He may not be a cap dump but he's aging and gets injured a lot - I don't think they'd want that contract. Byram isn't really being blocked so not a big deal.

I'm not looking at this trade, but Petry's term and cap hit really aren't that prohibitive for a top 4 2-way RHD in today's market. There simply aren't many options for teams looking. You're either paying $8-9M for 7-8 years, or you're getting a 1 dimensional guy for $4M with similar term.

The trade has to make sense, but the fit is there.

Girard is a top pairing 24yr old dman locked up for 5 more years on a sweetheart deal. He produces 30pts without any PP1 time. Gallagher a soon to be 30 yr old that makes $1.5M MORE than Girard who’s production will decrease and has a history of injuries. Lehkonen while super nice needs a new deal probably probably in the $3.5M range. Yeah the Avs are far better off with Girard and the extra $5M in cap space.

You could retain 50% on Gallagher's deal and the Avs would still say No.

Contrary to your earlier comment, I don't think you've fully grasped the Avs' roster and cap situation for next season. Burakovsky, Kadri and Nichushkin are all expiring, as well as both goalies, and no one with more than a $2 million hit is coming off the books for sure. All of those players are much more attractive to the Avs than a half-price Gallagher even without discussing his injury and current production issues.

Look at the situation this way: Colorado has about $26.5 million in cap space with 12 roster slots filled. Four of those 5 players mentioned above are going to aggregate at least $16 million, either themselves or to obtain same-quality replacements even if Gallagher at $3.25 million is one of them. That doesn't leave much left over for 6 or 7 skaters plus a back-up goalie. And you want to add Lehkonen, who's due a raise on a new contract, too.
