Description
With the cap only going up to 82.5m and Minnesota getting hit hard with the cap hits of Parise and Suter, do we try and take adavantage and trade for Fiala? Let me know if we could make a good trading partner with Minny. Also, what we would give up for Fiala.

I'm sure Guerin would have interest in Holtz, Mercer, or Hughes. I'm sure Devils don't want to move any of the though so probably no deal to be had.

As @Outcold13 correctly pointed out. The ask would likely be for something Devil's wouldn't want to give up.

For an unsigned Fiala, he would be aiming a little high, no?

It would be a cheaper forward, a non-1st round pick and maybe a prospect unless there is a contract agreed to.

Devils could go in for a trade of lesser pieces and if Wild's not interested, then make an offer sheet, depending how much they would like to target the guy. It would probably cost them 1st+2nd+3rd, but that kind of loss is probably better than losing the likes of Holtz, Mercer or Hughes.

A 2023 1st is a pretty valuable piece.
It will be Sam Reinhart-like comp.
B+ prospect plus late 1st or early 2nd rounder.
All this Hughes, Holtz, Mercer stuff is pure fantasy.

Few teams (and Jersey is one) can afford to take on Fiala without sending cap back to Minni. I suggest that Minni isn't going to get fair playing value for Fiala, other wise Jersey could spend Fiala cap on a good UFA and keep their trade assets. A signed Fiala 7m X 5 years....as suggested NHfan10506 gets a Reinhart type return. A second rounder, 40th overall, and good prospect might be best Minni can get since their might be few suitors who have cap ability to make a suitable trade. And do the Wild want to make a marginally better trade to a Conference rival like LA or Dallas who have the cap?

Then why trade him? Just move Dumba instead. We have Addison who looks like he could be better than Dumba anyways and is still on an ELC. Could also move Talbot. instead of Dumba. There's zero reason for us to trade Fiala for scraps.

Plus, are you guys even going to have enough cap space to give him a new deal?

Because Wild have 1/6th of their future cap space tied down in buyouts through 2025. And Fiala wants a raise.

And they need to add a center.

Exactly! You think we maybe do a trade like Johnsson for Anderson? We do a Boqvist for Fiala trade, take advantage of their cap problem?

Boqvist for Fiala would be a steal for us.
It would be a guy like Kuokkanen, Zetterland, or Foote plus a 2nd.

Which Anderson?

Remeber Joey Anderson for Andreas Johnsson. Because Leafs had no cap room, we took advantage of it.

But we can fit him into our cap if we trade Dumba or Talbot. He's easily the most talented of those 3.

Edit: And we do need a center, but the two the Devils have that are worth trading Fiala for they won't trade for Fiala... so I don't see a fit.

Why is his price so high?
His closest comparables would be Pavel Buchnevich and Sam Reinhart, both wingers in their mid 20s and RFAs.
In the prior 3 seasons (not including this season since it's not complete)
Sam Reinhart: 0.75 PPG
Pavel Buchnevich: 0.71 PPG
Kevin Fiala: 0.68 PPG

Reinhart went for late 1st + prospect
Buchnevich went for a 2nd + bottom 6 forward
There's no reason Fiala gets a top prospect like Hughes, Holtz, or Mercer

If you are talking about Hughes and Hischier, you are only setting yourself up for disappointment. He is not going to return a top player, a top pick or a top prospect without an extension agreed to. Think Sam Reinhart.

This is so wrong. Minnesota doesn't need to trade him. They can get cap other ways. Fiala is easily worth a 1st and top 6c. Buffalo traded Sam Reinhart because he wanted out and wasn't coming back

I'm not suggesting he will get a top prospect, but it just doesn't make sense for us to trade him if we don't get a player like that in return. Fiala has streaks where he dominates and looks like one of the best players in the league (he's on one right with 9 goals and 16 points in his last 12 games, a 109 point pace over 82 games). He also has stretches where he looks severely snakebitten despite producing a bunch of chances. Overall Fiala is an electric line-driving player, he just hasn't been given talented linemates to capitalize on the chances he makes for nearly his entire Wild tenure. The last time he had one he had 26 points in 18 games during the bubble season with Eric Staal as his center. This year he and Boldy have some amazing chemistry and what do you know, he's on pace for nearly 70 points after his slow start to the season.

Sam Reinhart was playing with Jack Eichel when he put up those numbers. Buchnevich was playing with Zibanejad and Kreider. Fiala's most common linemates the past two seasons? Johansson and Victor Rask last season, and the shells of Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise the season before. If anything it's extremely impressive he produced at the rate he did with the anchors he had on his line.

Again wild don't need to trade him point blank. So they aren't going to accept a 2nd round pick and nobody prospect who will never play on our team. By the way, fiala will not sign for 5 years or 7mil

Wild have 12.5m to sign 7 players to make a 22 man roster. I'd be interested how the Wild can fit in their current players without trading a big cap player and not taking cap back in return.

Wild fans can make as many Jack Hughes for Fiala offers they want. But they will not find a single person on this planet that will consider them anything short of laughable. If they wish to provide such free comedy for all of us, I will encourage them to proceed.

Then keep him. Sell Dumba. RHD market is more scarce than wingers anyway.
