I'm sure the Caps could have made some room to retain both, the problem is the caps didn't value them enough.

Keeping both of them would have been really difficult. Maybe without Schultz there they have neought but then there would be a hole at RD.

The way I see it, the only way to keep both of them would be to go back to 2017 and reverse the Oshie deal, and then you have a much different hole on the team that isn't as easily filled.

Shultz, getting rid of Kempny's contract and keeping Siegenthaler. At the end of the day, the caps could have found a way, it was easier to dump Burakovsky for a few picks.
