Edmonton will lose any mcdavid trade (they should not trade him)
But the 1st overall pick in 2022 (if that's what the pick is) and the 1st overall pick of 2021 (Power) is a darn good base of a trade that not many can beat
I agree with your first statement but let's think about this for a second. Why would the Oilers trade McDavid? There is only 1 possible reason and it's because he wants out. He has a NMC, does anyone honestly think Buffalo of all places would be a place he would waive to go to?
So it doesn't matter what the offer is.
Which brings me back around to agreeing with you about the Oilers losing the trade. He's going to be okay with going to maybe 3-5 teams. They have to be contenders and have a core close to his age. He won't go to a team like Washington which has an aging core. So really there are only a handful of teams he'd likely agree to go to. My guess, the Rangers, Colorado, Toronto, Carolina and maybe Florida.
Who of those teams have the assets to make a serious run? Would they be willing to part with said assets to get McDavid and do they have the space.
Of those teams I think TO and the Rangers have the best shot but if it's only a 2 team race, the return is going to be much much lower than people on here want to admit. If Edmonton could get Matthews and a 2nd that may be by far the best package available and I don't even think they would have to offer up Matthews. 12.5 million is extremely hard to make work.
