Does Detroit Think They are Good

Description
Not sure how much they like their prospects if they are ready to start putting this roster together in a winning fashion. They are also in a great postion where they can take expensive 1 year bets on guys in the hope they still have something.

Also it is the last year of Larkin and Bert on their contracts so if they think they can compete it would be a good time to go for it

This team isn't going to spend any money on free agents until they think they're a playoff team. They're 2 or 3 years away from moving 1sts and multiple assets like this.

I understand the assets, but 1 year deals like this have no downside. If you miss you sell them for picks, if you get in then mission accomplished.

No I get it they just won't do it is all. I think its more an organizational decision to not spend the money until they're competitive.

Yzerman has a very methodical plan. This is the exact opposite of his plan. The reason Detroit has taken major strides, is because they've been drafting and developing well and only making trades when they are good opportunities. None of these trades or FA signings make sense.

And even though that McDonagh trade was not his best work, it would still be better than anything in this thread for the Detroit Red Wings to make today.

Tampa was trying to win a Cup. Red Wings are light years from being in this position.

I don't think you can sell a $10M pavelski or $6M Rodrigues anywhere lol. No one wanting to buy those players would have the cap even at 50%.

That includes defensemen which lowers the average.

The cap is counted daily, so at the deadline (between 2/3rds and 3/4ths of the way through) the cap hit of a 10$ M player half retained is something like 1.25-1.65$ M against the cap

No, most forwards don't have 50% of their goals on the PP, that's ridiculous. Yes some do, but most don't. Those that do, are also scoring at even strength though, whereas Zadina is not, and he is the only one who has this ratio every single season.

Regardless, it's not a good trade for Ottawa

Either way Detroit only really has one decent line, one decent pairing of dmen and a good goalie. Some of their depth players are alright but all in all we are a pretty weak team where a couple players won't make the difference yet. Gonna be a couple more bad years until the current picks can develop and hopefully we get some elite talent in the next two drafts.

When we’re talking about a career of 19 goals, sample size matters. Same goes with this year. He’s clearly snake bitten by his SH%. Most forwards have around 1/3 of their goal production on the PP which clearly one good night of Zadina could put him there so again sample size.

Miller was also part of that trade and it was made in 2018 and that season TB made it to the conference finals where they lost in game 7. Since TB is looking for their 3 straight cups just 4 years after the Mcdonaugh trade.

I'm sorry but Detroit is in no position to trade 4 1st rd picks for a single player they don't have enough talent on their roster. Plus Arizona is looking for a 1st, a top prospect and a good young player.

Pavelski isn't signing in Detroit he will be 40 or older by the time the Wings are ready for a deep playoff run. It doesn't make sense for him or the Wings. Pavelski is looking for a cup and would most likely would take less to go to a team that has a legit chance to win a cup like Spezza and Thornton are doing.

Nope this isn't in the Yzerplan, No need for Brannstrom Zadina is worth more then a smallish Dman. And like the others stated Yzerman wont spend that kind of money. And it's doubtful any of them sign for 1 year deals.
