Don't worry cuz the Avs wouldn't do this either. For some reason folks act like Johnson is bad. He's not. Overpaid, yes, but he's still a good defenseman. Going from him to Chiarot at the expense of a first isn't worth it for Colorado.

COL doesn’t do either trade. Byram is untouchable even for Chychrun because of his elc status. Not only does COL not do Chiarot who is going to be the dman somebody regrets acquiring but EJ blocks that like there is no tomorrow.

While I don’t necessarily disagree COL isn’t trading Byram for anybody because of his potential and contract.

I wasn't saying he was bad just that it makes no sense to add extra cap for nothing in return. I like Johnson he is a similar player to chiarot just a bit older. Many people on this site value points over everything else and often don't realize that there are many facets of the game they overlook cause the player doesn't produce a ton of points. They often don't realize that the player they are putting down the Chiarots and Johnsons they are able to produce just like other D men just they have adapted their play to help cover for the more offensive guys. Both Chiarot and Johnson still have good speed for their size and are both capable of moving the puck up ice but neither do because they don't have to. They know their roles and are happy to do whatever the team needs them to do. Like right now Montreal needs scoring desperate and especially from the back end so Chiarot is showing he still has that in his tool box and can fill in until those more offensive guys get going again.Johnson can do the same if need be but with Makar, Byram and Girard he doesn't need to.

I wasn't intending to imply that you thought he was bad. Apologies if it came off that way. It was more just a general observation about how I see folks giving up good assets to dump his contract. It doesn't make sense. The team simply needs to deal with the fact he's overpaid for one more year. It is what it is. Luckily he's not dead weight.

My personal opinion is that it's more likely Johnson gets a new (cheaper) contract in Colorado than it is that he's traded.

The other element everyone misses with EJ is that his contract is basically banked money for paying Nate. Highly unlikely he gets traded for that reason in some ways above all else.
