So now we know for Sandin there are 3 choices

1. Sign him to his QA ($832500k x 1 year)

2. Sign 1.55 x 2 yrs (Vali Deal)

3. Sign 2.75mill x 6 yrs (Cloud Deal)

Not saying he isn't but he retired as a coach and I think it's best he stays in a analyst rather than a office job in the NHL as it grows the game more...

I don’t think Option 3 is a thing for Sandin. For one he doesn’t have the body of work yet (Whitecloud played regularly all of last season and in 2 deep playoff runs) and for another Sandin has higher upside. Whitecloud’s probably looking at staying a 3rd pair guy behind Theo and Petro, maybe sneaking up to the 2nd pair in a few years, whereas Sandin wants to be a 1D. Valimaki deal is far more likely.

I always thought if the Leafs decided to be proactive and sign Sandin to a long term value contract with the hopes he would out perform it; a contract similar to Jake Bean would be a nice comparison.

6 years at 2.75mill would honestly be a steal now considering as Sandin grows and gets more ice time and opportunities he should easily make it look like an underpay. It may look bad years 1one and two but years 3-6 man could become a steal

Cause while Vali's is also good what if Sandin gets 30 + points hes gonna command more than 2.75mill thats for sure (around 4-5mill potentially like what Petterson and Pesce got)

I think what Whitecloud got would honestly be reasonable in the long run as in this stuck cap world got to get the best team friendly deals you can buy

Yeah that’s exactly why Option 3 isn’t a thing. It would be good for the Leafs but Sandin would never do it. Sandin has higher upside so he won’t commit for 6 years, thinking that he’ll eventually be worth more long before that contract is up (like he could score 40 points next year or the year after, so he’d much prefer a 2-year deal to get him there, and then cash in if it turns out right). It only works for Whitecloud because he’s a 3rd pair guy who looks like he’ll stay on the 3rd pair for several more years, so he’s securing the bag now in case opportunities for promotion don’t come, and it works for Vegas so they have cost certainty on D. Sandin has opportunities for promotion to the top 4 aplenty, starting with literally next year, so he’d be stupid to sign for 6 years.

True, but who knows. I got a feeling the deal he gets will depend on what happens with Rielly or if Dubas goes out and gets someone else to fill in the top 4 until we know for sure Sandin is ready for it.

Vegas never considers and Buffalo shouldn’t even dilute their return. They have no need for Theodore.
