So the Leafs have Bertuzzi and Copp for 9m. Wouldn't the Leafs be better off keeping Reilly and Kerfoot for 8.5m and keeping top prospect Amirov and a first?

Kerfoot will likely be picked by Seattle so he has to be traded. And Rielly will be expensive to resign. But I agree that a top-heavy team like Toronto should not be trading its picks and prospects.

Reilly/pionk pair would be a solid move for Jets, package something together to go get Jones and a morrissey/Jones and make a run. Never mind this is a leafs build lol

???? That Kerfoot statement makes no sense. Leafs are going to lose a player. So by your logic if Kerfoot is traded to avoid Seattle, then one of Bertuzzi or Copp is selected.
Leafs likely aren't going to have the cap to sign the overrated Reilly. Just spend that cap elsewhere.

The Leafs "have" to protect Reilly, Muzzin, and Brodie. I don't understand the logic of protecting 4 D. Holl and Dermot are pretty interchangeable value wise. So Seattle takes one and the Leafs get to keep one. Protect just three Dman, Seattle still select one and Leafs keep one.
Trade Kerfoot for pick as you suggest, the Leafs are down two NHLers next season Kerfoot and that drafted Dman.

Holl and Dermot all would be exposed if the Leaf protect three Dmen.

So Rielly and Kerfoot are traded pre expansion draft and so is Dermott, I now have Niku and Engvall exposed. I have protected - Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Bertuzzi, Copp and Fisher ( that's 7) Muzzin, Brodie and Holl (that's 3) and of course Campbell protected. So I guess both Simmonds and Spezza are also available to Seattle ( can't see them taking either guy)
