No thanks. We are not trading Broberg for a guy like Killorn. Try Stalock and a 4th.

Nothing has changed from last offseason. Detroit isn't taking Tyler Johnson unless you're giving up a lot more than a mediocre prospect and a 2nd in two years

Killorn would be a great addition to the Oilers but Broberg is off the table. Lighting and their cap problems (unless they have $10mil conveniently on LTIR all year but available come playoff time again) have them dealing from a position of weakness in terms of getting full returns for their players. GMs know that they don't need to give up top end prospects to pry these guys loose...

Yep. Edmonton needs better depth scoring in order to become a serious contender. Sports Illustrated cites data collected by a senior analyst of data and analytics at BMO, who watched McDavid’s shifts against the Jets in isolation and counted more than nine possible penalties per game, all that were not called. Apparently "there were at least three instances per game where the infractions were egregious and blatantly obvious." The loser's argument is that the officials should have called the infractions. Imagine, at least 18 minutes of power play time per playoff game! The reality is that isn't going to happen. Tampa is a great example of a team with elite level talent that had to learn this lesson the hard way. It was not too long ago that Columbus unceremoniously dispatched the President's Trophy winning Lightening through an extraordinary display of "character and determination" (the same "attributes" that gave Winnipeg the sweep over Edmonton and may give the Habs a sweep over the Jets).

Killorn would be a good addition for the Oilers. He would bring playoff experience to the dressing room, and some scoring depth to the ice. However, I agree with some of the previous comments, Tampa is the team in a position of weakness and Broberg is too high a price to pay for a 31-year-old with two seasons left on his contract. Fortier is not enough to give the trade balance.

Taking on TJ would cost more than a mediocre prospect that likes to take dirty shots on teammates + a late second round pick.

I’m not even a huge Broberg fan but Killorn wouldn’t return him a trade. Tampa has really no leverage as he has a NTC and you need to shed cap to be compliant.

Couple that with the fact of who can afford his AAV & who is competing and it dwindles even more. It’s why VGK/NYI got “top dollar” for Schmidt & Toews.

I definitely will.

Detroit passes, Even with Tyler Johnson with 3 years left on his contract would cost a 1st round pick plus a 2nd round pick and a b prospect at minimum.

This definition of “power forward” is getting more and more loose. I never once said his AAV was high but rather TBL has no leverage just like VGK & NYI, everyone and their grandma knows you’ve got to clear a massive amount of cap. Asking for a prospect that most have in their top 2/3 that was a recent 8 OVR is asking a lot compared to comps. I’d take him in Detroit but you’d hate the offer if you think OP’s offer is close in value. We’d be talking a third round pick ala Schmidt for him straight up no salary retained.

Sure, that just lends emphasis to my point. That playoff loss to Columbus must've been painful and frustrating, and I am sure it also contributed to the development of Tampa's core. Now, instead of being a very good team, the Lightning are perennial contenders, in the top echelon of the NHL, and challenged to maintain key roster components.

In that time, Edmonton has moved from a bottom third of the league team to finish the past two seasons just outside the top ten, nowhere near the top echelon but dramatically improved nonetheless. The Oilers will need at least two, or maybe three, key acquisitions in order to move solidly into the top ten and perhaps begin to challenge Tampa, Colorado, Vegas, etc. and that leads us back to the trade proposal.

Given the stagnant salary cap, expansion draft, and talent potentially available via free agency, the Oilers shouldn't have to give Tampa a prospect like Broberg to acquire a player like Killorn. That's not a knock against Killorn and Tampa, and its not chest pounding on behalf of the Oilers, its reality. Within this year's free agent group are a number of players that should offer exactly what Edmonton needs, and Ken Holland will finally have enough money to sign a couple of them. That is going to impact how Holland deals with other GMs who may want to discuss trades.

If you think Killorn is the answer for the oilers, you're out to lunch. Rather than giving up Broberg, they can afford to over pay for secondary scoring this offseason.

Edmonton was a garbage team for years, made it to game 7 in the second round a couple years back. Sure the play in round last year and the sweep this year are "1 and done", but that's a weak chirp to try to justify why anyone is gonna help Tampa offload horrible contracts. Also the oilers have more series wins than Tampa. If you take your one and done logic for the 13 years longer the oilers have been in the league, the oilers would still have 10 more playoff series victories than Tampa.
