Do you actually think Erik Johnson would be a positive addition?

I wouldn’t touch him if I’m Winnipeg. I’d go after Dumba tho, that would be a positive add

Yes very much. He’s exactly what we need imo. Not a bad skater, physical, and good at moving the puck. He would be the perfect stabilizing guy for heinola

We need size, dumba isn’t what we need. He would help with the puckmoving, but the issue with the jets d is mainly size, heinola and Stanley will help the issues with puckmoving

Better option would be going after Dougie

Sign Hamilton 8.5x7 instead of trading for Johnson and signing McCabe

Yeah that's my feeling too. With Johnson's age and cap hit, I would want the Jets to steer clear.

Samberg isn’t ready imo. Give him another year to develop his offensive game. If we want to play Stanley in that too 4 role sure, but I’d rather give heinola the dumba minutes. More upside and long term benefits for her jets

It’s not like we need the cap space and he’s only got 2 years left. He’s also only 33. Yes he’s in decline, but he should be good enough for the remainder of his contract.

Okay. For me Johnson is a huge negative when you factor in his age, contract and play.

Hamilton realistically won’t come to Winnipeg. This is much more realistic. Also, Hamilton is good at moving the puck but he isn’t very physical, especially at his size. We also have heinola as the long term powerplay qb, Hamilton would only block him. I’m not that much of a fan of Hamilton’s on ice results tbh. Yes he drives play and helps the jets, but he won’t be worth that contract for long and the jets’ window is going to be open for a while.

That’s fair. I just think he could be a stastny like addition. Also would be a huge boost to leadership. He’s also still very good on ice. That’s what really matters.

For me paying $6 mil for a guy when you can get a comparable UFA for around 1 or 2 mil, is a waste of cap space that you may end up needing. If you want to help Colorado by taking a cap dump, at least make them pay for it instead giving away a pick that is probably twice Johnson's value.

Okay, we found where we disagree. Imo, Johnson could get around 4M on the open market, maybe not now with his injury but without it for sure. We helped Vegas, but people didn’t realIze that that trade also fixed our biggest need. It’s the same thing here. We get a big shutdown rd who can move the puck for pennies on the dollar.

You can spend 6m better than Johnson. And why help Colorado and their cap . Seattle ain't selecting Johnson.

This trade makes 0 sense , ej and nmc are not an issue for protecting for the draft as all signs are pointing to him waiving and Seattle would be out of their minds to select him

Plus the only way avs trade ej is if he asks to be traded, they wouldn’t move him unless that happened

If ej is healthy next year he still is an important piece to the avs team that they miss, they aren’t giving him away for free

I’d just like to know how a mediocre player they could take anyways is somehow payment to take another mediocre player as well so WPG gets cap space.

I mean, it’s incentive to stay off appleton essentially. I’d be willing to add more since I agree it’s probably not enough, but ppl keep saying I’m giving too much to seattle so I went low this time. 😂

Pretty good prediction. Evolving Hockey has Hamilton at 8yr x $9.205, if he goes to a different team though it is a year less they have it at 7yr x $8.479.

I get we want to protect our favorites but everybody is probably gonna lose somebody they rather wouldn’t unless they’re willing to pay a hefty price.

Expansion also seems less consequential when you accept that too.

Who else would they protect? The keep the 3 top 4 guys (Morrissey, Pionk, Dumba) and let Seattle pick from the guys who are borderline top 4 at best. It’s not a big loss, especially since Heinola will jump in next season.
