Description
Does this make sense at all and can Reinhart play center? Also how would this affect who we have to protect for expansion since Reinhart is a RFA with Arb. rights. Also in all the Eichel trades I've seen with the Wild it almost always involves Fiala and sometimes KK which if were trading for Eichel that makes no sense to send one of those two back so if we can keep them and add Reinahrt does that make us better?

Reinhart isn't a center.

I think the idea of trading for Eichel would be to get him to play with Kaprizov. I'm fine with the idea of including Fiala for Eichel even if it stings, we have a glut of winger prospects and Fiala is about to get paid. If Fiala is in the package for Eichel, I'd imagine Rossi and Boldy would likely be off the table.

Reinhart isn't a center and that is a pretty big overpayment. He's not someone the Wild should be targeting.

Ok was not sure about Reinhart as a center but makes sense. Interesting the only question is how much better does that make us with Eichel but without Fiala? Not saying Fiala is anywhere near Eichel but maybe we do have the wing prospects to replace Fiala.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fiala get a 3/4 year deal with the intention of moving him at the end of it.

Since you didn't make any trades or even set the lineup, no it wouldn't make sense.

To answer your other questions, Sam Reinhart will be expansion eligible. He would have to be protected or risk being lost to Seattle. He also has only taken 150+ faceoffs once in his career which means he basically hasn't played center in the NHL. It looks like he did for his 9 game stint as a 19 year old since he took 86 faceoffs in 9 games but he pretty much stopped after that. No real reason to expect a 25 year old to suddenly jump in as center considering his abysmal 36.7% career faceoff percentage.

I think he would make us a lot better. Eichel is a 90-100+ point center. Fiala, in the absolute best case scenario, is probably a 70-80 point, 30 goal scoring winger. Centers are way more valuable than wings and my personal philosophy is that cups are won with a strong center group. I love Fiala, he plays a highly skilled game and he's entertaining as hell to watch, but I wouldn't hesitate to trade him for Eichel.

If we do end up trading for Eichel, we are going to have to give up a piece (or even pieces) that we don't want to.

And that's just it: A piece. Not all of our top prospects and a few roster players like Sabres fans think. I could see something like Fiala, Khovanov or Khusnutdinov, a couple 1st round picks, Rask for cap, and some other random pick/prospect. Guerin (or any other GM) aren't giving up things they'll need to contend to get Eichel, such as potential production on ELCs from guys like Rossi or Boldy (if Fiala is in the deal). If Buffalo moves Eichel, they're admitting the rebuild failed and starting over.

We never really gave Sam Reinhart an opportunity to play center and be successful. He had looks early in his career when he was 19 and 20, but it didn’t work out mainly because he had atrocious wingers, and he also wasn’t physically ready for it either, plus we had Ryan O’Reilly at the time who pushed Reinhart down the chart. Once we moved him to RW, we never looked back.

I suspect he can play the position if given the opportunity again. He is a natural center and a possession driver a a consistent 60-70 pt player with a high hockey IQ. If you give him the opportunity at this stage of his career when he’s more mentally and physically ready and with quality wingers, he may succeed.

I think it only make sense though if a team also has a need for a right shot right wing. Buffalo would likely want to get bigger and more physical in return which will be hard to do if you’re trying to find that in the top 6
