I think you worded that backwards maybe? Doesn't make sense what you said. How can you be talked about so much (overrated) that you're actually underrated? Isn't the whole premise of "underrated" not being talked about enough?

No it makes sense. As for Tyler Johnson for example people talk about his bad contract and how he needed to go. People hear that enough and all the sudden you see people trying to put him on the taxi squad when he's still a top 6 forward

Kakko and Hughes both get a bad rep for not lighting up the league right away, but it's not as easy as the McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, Laine, etc. would make it seem. Hopefully they both play up to their potential and don't get too caught up in what the media says about them. Lafreniere too

Opinions like that are why people are called overrated.... He had 16 points in 65 games last year. No where near a top 6 forward. 3C ABSOLUTE BEST. and a super over priced 3C.

and then others are overrated

Lafrenierre is going to be better than Kakko, this year, and every year.

Danault I'd say might get too much praise from Canadiens fans but he is a real solid player.
Hischier i think is an excellent player
Provorov and Jones deserve any attention they receive. Both are outstanding.
Andersen is a reality of being a Leaf
Ristolainen would be a better player on literally any other team. Poor kid.

I'm sure he will, but I don't think it's fair to these young players (or any players for that matter) to get **** on by the media for not being an elite scorer right away, especially on big market teams like NY or Toronto

Take Gaudreau of. As a Flames fan I can tell you he does not deserve to be here. He gets way too hyped up for how good he actually is. The only thing he can do is put up points but lately he hasn't done that either, Cant play defence, obviously no physical play, he is not actually that great.

He had 31 pts. A 2nd liner putting up basically 1/2 a pt a game isn't that bad

On pace for 39 points. that's not a 5,000,000 second line player.

I love the whole argument of “overrated vs underrated”. Take barkov for example. People have been calling him the most “underrated” player in the league for years now, but if everyone calls him “underrated” that means he’s no longer “underrated”

I'm not saying he's not overpaid (he is), but he is still underrated. And that was basically his worst year of his career

And yes before you mention it, he was awful in the playoffs this year, but it didn't matter
