I wouldn't say he is the Devils best defenseman or LHD (with addition of Murray). Butcher struggled after his first year. If Smith is ready for Top 4 minutes, Devils should probably trade Butcher/

Doesn't seem like it, but even if he did, why go to camp and risk injury when he doesn't yet have a contract? Some people are just being ignorant about the whole thing.

Him and Murray are close for sure, and yeah I would agree that butcher has been a little worse than his first year but he was probably the best defenceman on the roster last year in my opinion.

Depending what they internally see as a need.. could easily get a mid round pick and a prospect thats close to making it or a young roster player.

I would say it was Severson. Plus, Devils probably want to get rid of Butcher so they don't only have offensive defensemen.

Severson is the one the jets need. 1st line d and would work with Morrissey. Roslovic and Pionk + for Severson and Zacha. Probably too big of a trade but Winnipeg needs that top rh d.

The devils shouldn’t be thinning out their defense with all of their prospects being unknowns at the moment. Butcher is still one of their better defenseman and it’s worth seeing what he and Severson are like when the entire team isn’t a dumpster fire and a contract situation isn’t hanging over all of their heads.
