What a Sad and Terrible Day for Offer Sheeters Across Canada and the Northeast

Description
With the loss of the Cirelli angle to the capocalypse, now these folks can finally resort to figuring out if Tampa trades Coburn or waives him to the taxi squad. We Canes fans can only celebrate for a short time, however, because, whenever they figure that out, they can then cope with the loss by sending us Liljegren, Kerfoot, and a 2nd for Pesce proposals for the next year. Because clearly, we gave up too little for Bracco and Jarvis and we can settle for a little less for Pesce.

A 23 year old Dermott still has a lot to prove, but as of right now, he is not a top 4 defensemen. I have no doubt that he won't grow when he is selected by Seattle

A 20 year old Sandin still has more to show, and especially for his age, he is not ready

Liljegren is practically a bust

lol, Liljegren is less than a year younger than Sandin, sure thing bahd

right because 23 year old dermott, 20 year old sandin, and 21 year old liljegren will never improve

also holl literally was a successful top 4 D for us, so until he proves otherwise, he simply is lol. lehtonen is a wildcard but everyone seems to think he's too good to not be at least a #4, but that's a mystery, he might adjust terrible to NHL ice

I just saw your updated post. Holl will be a top 4 defensemen for the Leafs, but a 7th/8th defensemen at best for any contending team. In your eyes, I'm curious to know where will he play for the Avalanche, Blues, or the Knights? Lehtonen is coming from the KHL, and I don't understand the huge hype around him. Ever heard of Zaitsev? I hear he's amazing with the Senators

Well, it was satire based on what the capocalypse truthers are going to do next. The Cirelli/Sergachev/Barzal offer sheet conspiracies were, as it turned out, epic fails. My prediction is that they will eventually go back to dreaming about Pesce-for-nothing deals again to get their blood flowing for the year.

Oh my bad I see you

zaitsev wasn't the leading all-time dman in points per game in the KHL, nor was he named KHL defenceman of the year at any point lol

The problem with Zaitsev was that he was massively paid for one good year, which turned out to be pyrite. Dubas did really well to purge that deal out so seamlessly without giving up a 1st. Again, we'll see with Lehtonen. Sometimes really good KHL guys have a hard time adjusting to smaller ice.

TBF, no one's worried about Dubois. The question is whether they go for a bridge or the full 8 years. Columbus has the massive cap room to do either, and if UFAs still don't want to play for Columbus, well...I know what I would do. Maybe Jarmo's more confident that they'll convince a big fish to join the team someday.

A week ago I did an Arizona team with Anthony DuClair signed for 2 years at $1.5 million. Between putting the construction together and posting it, DuClair signed with Florida, so I added this final sentence: "Too bad I was wrong about DuClair." To which the first response was "DuClair is a Panther. He signed yesterday."

If you think reality is going to stop, or even slow down, that segment of fans addicted to offer sheets, you suffer from a touching optimism that is seldom rewarded by events.

here's him compared to most other contending team's #4 dmen ranked by GAR.

he's 3rd in offense, 4th in defence, 2nd in PK defence.

he's middle of the pack in GAR. again, we've only got one year to go off of, it could be a fluke, but there's no denying he performed well for us and played comparatively better than other 'contending teams' #4 dmen

I don't think that these folks truly get that flat caps make it harder, not easier, to offer sheet a player. Historically, flat cap years have ALWAYS been to the benefit of incumbent contenders, mainly because cap floor clubs run by bad management are way less likely to agree to insane, market-busting extensions with their RFAs during that time. Part of the reason why the Aho offer sheet happened was because the cap went up, but not dramatically so, giving a rogue GM like Bergy the space he needed to do something braindead because Canadian media was blathering on about "Dundon so cheap" at the time.

The flood of dumb posts by Leaf fans are usually not satire. This is explicitly satire. I will note that every team has their share. Unfortunately, the hockey community is so massive in Toronto that there statistically is going to be more fans that are lower on the intelligence quotient than others.

Every non leaf fan on here calls any post that doesn't wreck the Leafs unfair and bias for the Leafs. Like Pesce costs Nylander plus.

Sandin could potentially be a "top 4" guy, but isn't so yet. Same with Dermott. We'll see with Lehtonen. The only legitimate top-4 guys that Toronto truly has are Reilly, Brodie, and Muzzin. Carolina suffered a similar issue for half of last season without Faulk. Eddy was over his head playing with Pesce, Fleury didn't really step up his game until around January, and Skjei wasn't acquired until February. Gardiner's a good player, contrary to CW, but is ideally sheltered a bit at even-strength.

According to that "Leaf fan" (who is absolutely transparently just a troll masquerading as a Leaf to get his kicks) all Leaf players are crap. He's a sad individual

pesce is really good, arguably a #2 D. better than holl ofc, but for the leafs, we have a great 123 of rielly, muzzin and now brodie. add in guys like sandin, dermott, holl, and lehtonen who are all viable #4 guys.

trading a 3C/2LW, our best NHL-ready RD prospect and a 2nd rounder for a #2 D to fill a #4D hole didn't make much sense

despite the hate he gets, justin holl was VERY good for the leafs last year, it might be a blip/fluke and he might be terrible, but if he plays anything like he did last year then we have a solid shutdown RD who can log 21+ mins a night for $2M AAV.

Yes I agree man, Holl had a really good year. If he can keep it up, I think the Leafs defence is set. TBH, most people would consider this team a contender if they didn’t overpay Marner by 2 Million. They look really good.

Well for sure, Pesce is an elite shutdown D by his usual standards. Just unfortunate the Leafs can’t afford him.

Did u see his defensive stats he is no where near elite lul. He had 1 good season and that was when he was paired with Slavin. Once he was paired away he struggled. In general pesce is good but no where near the elite category.

The public analytics are misleading with Pesce this past season, mainly because they are more partner- and zone-dependent than advertised to be by computer nerds like Dom and Tierney. It's the exact reason why the more pretentious analytical types also highly underrate Seth Jones, as well as any teams coached by Torts and Trotz. His even-strength defensive partner for the vast majority of that year, Edmundson, was WAY over his head playing Pesce's D-zone heavy minutes. The Skjei acquisition and Fleury's continued emergence should help Pesce considerably, much in the same way that Faulk did before he was sign-and-traded for Bokk and picks. To me, the big issues from last season for our club was our secondary scorers like Nino and Dzingel slumping and certain guys like Eddy and McGinn being way over-slotted by Brind'Amour because he was slow-walking Necas and Fleury.
