1) Again, that is all before Covid hit and what the NHL is now saying there will be a flat cap for the foreseeable future in your comparisons.
2) Schmaltz is also pretty overpaid.
3) Barkov is world's better on a worse team then Cirelli even in his 3rd season

Barkov halfway through his third season was not world's better. Barkov then is NOT Barkov today
Compare him to say Barkov who signed his extension in January of his third season. (not after the season). They had similar scoring numbers, Barkov was on his way to being 6th in Selke voting. Cirelli has been 7th and 4th.
Barkov got 8.1% which would be about 6.5 mil
Around 7% which is about 6 mil are guys like Trochek, Zibenejad (before he broke out), Schmaltz, etc
Barkov? Are you insane. Barkov is 10x better with a much. Much. higher ceiling. Since his 3rd season Barkov has been a point a game player. He is 2 years older and already has (5) 20+ goal seasons and one 30 goal season.
He fell four points short of 100pts at 23 years old.
Cirelli has 94 career points.
Simmer down. He is in the same conversation defensively, but Barkov is an Elite Franchise player. Cirelli is a good NHL player.
He would have got a 5yr @ $8.5m Per if he played in Toronto... Just joking TOR fans
Good Deal IMO, a 23yr old #2 / #3 Center that is great Defensively & improving every year on Offensive side at $4.8 Per during his Prime Hockey years and could be a 60 to 75 point Center at end of contract ??
To all the people saying Tampa Bay faked Kucherov's injury, why would they pretend that their best player, who is probably a top 5 player in the league, is injured?

Cirelli .56 ppg
Barkov .85 ppg
Trochek is a better comparison.
If they both play 1000 games
I'm not comparing him to Barkov today that's obviously insane.
I'm comparing him to Barkov in January 2016. He had just come off seasons with 24 and 36 points and was playing much better but just a half season at about a 65 point pace.
What he has done since is irrelevant as that wasn't known at the time.
He was signed Jan 25, 2016 he has played 38 games in the season at that point. He had 30 points in the 38 games at that point.
That changes it to 163 GP and 90 points or 0.55 ppg
If you want to compare apples to apples, you compare what they both accomplished in their first 3 seasons. Another factor is, clearly the difference in age between the two
