Listen, I get it. There's a lot of unrealistic expectations as to what a guy like Eichel would bring back, but this ain't it.
-You can no longer put trade conditions on picks based around re-signing a player.
-Who the heck would play C for Buffalo?
-6 years of Eichel > 2 years of Gaudreau/Gio
-Odds are those 2 1st would be late.
Not a lot of motivation for the Sabres to do this deal.
buffalo has a much better chance of re-signing Gaudreau then Calgary does especially because in his signing year 13.5 million would be coming off the books with gio and gaudreaus contracts ending.
A first round pick is a first round pick and two of them is pretty good regardless of how late they could end up being.
yes centre becomes a question mark for buffalo but their wings would be incredibly loaded. bennet would probably end up being second line centre which is a little weak but he could elevate playing with the talent on the wings
at this point gergensons and montour are in the deal to equalize the money. so Calgary gets the best player but the next three best players are going to buffalo
throw in the second and this trade is definetly favoring buffalo.
another possibility is switching gaudreu with monahan if buffalo really wants a centre coming back but im not sure thats the case or would draw as much interest as gaudreau
not to mention another bad year in buffalo and Eichel will be asking for a way out
