    had to do it

signing rights dont have that much value these days

A top 15 1st for signing rights is a big yikes as what if Pitrangelo says no.
The most I have seen a team try was Buffalo with Vesey where they gave a 3rd just to talk to him.

That's a massive overpayment for UFA rights. At most I can see a fourth, maybe a third if the leafs feel confident he'll sign with them.

Dubas is already getting the briefcase of bonus money ready for when he becomes a UFA lul. Why waste the 1st when we can just wait to talk to him for FREE

That's a lot for a guy to walk in FA. Maybe a conditional first if he signs and nothing if he walks? Never seen a third round even go for a UFA rights.

When in the history of time do you see a pending UFA get traded for a 1st rounder?

I still doubt he comes to TO. It's not exactly the best long term plan. Although as you mentioned bonus money is appealing and is every bit, if not more of an advantage than tax free states. Many small market teams have been upset about this very thing in the past.

LeBrun said today that teams wanting to trade for Pietrangelo's rights better come with serious offers b/c STL wouldn't just trade his rights for only a 3rd round pick

I would hate to see Pietrangelo walk but I’m simply a fan so there’s no reason to get emotional over it. I don’t have any control so meh it sucks but there’s nothing a fan can do. I was more mad when the Laurie’s were selling the team so they stripped payroll including getting rid of Pronger for nothing

I’ll always have the great memories of Pietrangelo being the first Blue to lift the Cup.

This is just an idea if what LeBrun says came to fruition

true but Lebrun said it best if Toronto was to get him at 8x 7yr cap hit he could get 2 years of 12.5mill bonus money. Thats alot of money within his first 2 years lul that I dont think other teams would be willing to give him as rn many teams are cash strapped. Yes some could get him on an 8mill cap hit but that would probs be the base with no bonuses.

If Pitrangelo came to Toronto I see his cap hit being 8mill but like Tavares his contract will be made up of alot of bonus money with a base salary of 700-800k

Vegas is the 2nd team he mentioned but he said the one issue would be bonuses as vegas has only done bonus money one time and does not have the resources to give more than 7-8mill per year in bonuses to him per a report. So basically the bonus hit would look like Stones contract minus the 9.5 cap hit.

I dont know what Dubas is planning but I have the feeling hes going for Pitrangelo as rn I have heard no talks of him talking to other teams of their RHD. Last thing I heard was last monday he was talking to the blues about Parayko than the Pitrangelo news came out and everything went quiet.

Lol we're not so desperate to gamble a first round pick just to talk to him. If he talks to us great, if not, we'll use our first elsewhere.

You can just sign him when he becomes UFA

And can't do these trades anymore (condition: if player re-signs, team receives x pick)

    very true

Lets say we do trade our 1st for his rights and he says no and walks what the **** was the point of doing it. Well to get a shot at getting him. Remember buffalo and paying a 3rd just to talk to vesey only for him to go to the rangers. thats why you dont pay high picks for signing rights.

Toronto out of all NHL teams has probs the best shot as they are rolling in cash can move Nylander to make room and give pitrangelo 2-3 years of 12 mill bonuses according to Lebrun on a 8 mill cap hit. Dont know how the math works but someone probs drawing it up.

Everything being quiet is the key. I think right now, Dubas knows he has an advantage. As you mentioned everyone is cash strapped. I am sure he'll talk to Pietrangelo and even then, I doubt he pushes his chips in immediately. Why would you? Sure he's great, but if the FA market just doesn't move and that is a very good possibility, why not wait and see you can get a bargain somewhere. If you could get a guy like Tanev for 3 million on a 1-2 year deal due to the market stagnating, the savings in cap space could be much better for the team.
