Description
A couple of in division trades:

Jets to the Blues a solid and take their 2020 1st so they can extend their captain. The Blues could shop around, but as soon as we ink a backup tender this deal is off the table.

They also do Wheeler a solid and trade him home to finish out his career. We take back Dumba which helps their expansion draft issue and is someone that would be able to quarterback our PP. Wheeler could play 2nd line C for them or slot in on the wing if they want to give JEEk a longer look. Wheeler has a full NMC but they didn't tap him to do year end media which is strange to me so maybe he's unhappy and would welcome this move?

If Little is able to return we can easily fit him without any roster shuffling. We could decide to stay cheap this year with no revenue from fans or we could take on another cap dump in the $5M range if we could play them on our 4th line and it was attached to a 1st round pick or prospect we really liked. I think it's important that our young LD play next year so we get all the rookie mistakes out of the way at once and are back to our new window in 2021.

Don’t even bother with the wheeler trade. The jets have enough d specs that Dumba would be redundant soon

If I have to read "so they can keep Pietrangelo" one more time tears of joy I really doubt we'll get ripped off trading a useful player like this. Maybe the return will be small, but it ain't gonna be a 1st round pick + Allen (or Bozak) just to move them.

Jake Allen was top-5 in save% and led the league in high-danger save %... also a career .913 and .925 in the playoffs. The Blues aren’t moving a first to get rid of him.

The Jets RHD prospects aren't close to Dumba though, that'd be a great trade for the Jets, the Wild would never make it though.

I agree that Allen had great numbers last year. To help a division rival keep their star player or really for anyone to dump cap to the Jets that would be the cost I would expect. Maybe Ottawa or some other team will want less to take these guys on? We'll see what happens.

I guess we'll see. He had a great year this year, it's just a lot of cap for a backup goalie. Some team may see him as a starter still, or you could keep him and try to deal someone else for sure. We likely just extend Broissoit anyhow, but then we'd have even more cap to play with. If it ends up being harder than you expect, we'll still be here. smile

I’m into this trade, makes our forwards a bit weak but nothing we can’t address. I also think it might be time for a changing of guard at C for wpg. Wheels has been good, but I think it’s time to move on. This trade benefits both teams. Honestly I think MIN does this.

This move imo, puts wpg in a spot where I’d go after hall in FA.

Yeah we'll have to wait and see. I have a feeling that Petro might walk and if that's the case the only cap casualty I see coming is Bozak. The Blues like the Binner + Allen tandem. If Petro does sign, I think Steen and Allen have to go, but Allen should draw a decent amount of interest from any team that wants a 1-yr solution.

Unfortunately, with the RFA contacts coming up next year, the Jets can't afford AP, unless he took a massive discount for some reason which is pretty much not going to happen.

I actually disagree. We could easily afford AP if he wanted to come here if Little is on LTIR the rest of his career.

If you take the above team add $2.5M cap from undoing the Wheeler for Dumba trade and then remove $3M in cap from the Allen trade. We'd have space to offer a long term deal in the $9.5M range.

The following year Perreault is gone and likely so to is Lowry as Gus takes his place but that $6M in cap savings goes to Laine, Copp, Pionk and Poolman for extensions. We could make it work, but AP probably doesn't want to come here so it's a moot point.

WPG doesn't have any RFA of any real value. Roslovic was their top performing RFA, 12 goals 29 points. They will have 15 million in cap, not including what they might get from Little. Putting them at 20.
They have some UFA, but again none of them are all that great. If they can get an upgrade on defense they take it. If they can get him for 8 or 9 and they have 20 million in cap they will be fine.

Okay, if you figure on a few very unlikely moves and bargain basement extensions for players, then maybe. However, I do agree AP will not want to sign here.

Next year isn't the problem, it would be the following year when we need to extend Laine, Copp and Pionk (am I forgetting anyone) and would mean doing without a 2C as well. Anyways, there is poetically almost no chance AP will want to sign in Winnipeg.

He might be kinda hard to move considering how many goalies are out there, but Allen also has a very favorable buyout. I’d be shocked if the blues have to do much to move him
