My problem with McDavid is his game is so one dimentional.
He's not very good at faceoffs, he's never really gown his defensive game, and I've never really seen his offensive game "grow".
it's the same pony show now as it always has been.
Yeah he's fast no doubt, but the whole league is getting faster catching up to him. And the real question is how does his game fair out when he starts to drop a step or two. Does anyone go a slowing McDavid is still a hands down great player?
Crosby on the other hand was never a great player because of speed, it was always his hand eye co-ordination and his insight into the game.
I think McDavid is definitely the guy you want if you want 100 points out of your guy. But I personally don't view him as the best younger player in the league.
There isn't that much separating MacKinnon, Matthews and McDavid for hm.
I think out of the 3 of those guys, Matthews has shown the most growth as a player and the guy who probably continues to improve.
If I had to pick out the three of them I would take Matthews currently.
I don't care that much about McDavids speed. You can game plan that and take it away. He's also going to lose steps, but will his defense ever improve when he does? Will he ever be good at taking a faceoff? Will he ever be a better player playing below the goal line when the puck is already in the O zone.
Yeah he's great on the rush we'be seen that for years, but where is the growth?
