What makes you think we want a Couture who will have a real bad deal in a few years?

Well he would definitely fit very well in Julien's system and although the long term consequences regarding his performance are a little unclear the cap should increase by a boatload between Seattle and the new US TV deal.

All in all it's a deal worth considering for MTL imo.

I think if habs were to move domi they will try to get a defensemen or a pick, we have Suzuki-Kotkaniemi-Danaut-Poehling at center so i don’t think they will go for couture even if its a faire deal

All I meant is that it's a deal worth more consideration than just a flat out no. Having Danault and Couture at C would definitely be a formidable nuisance to any other team's top players.

There is also the millions and millions lost this season. So I wouldn’t bet on the cap going up much at all.

Not this upcoming season but the revenues from an extra team, new TV deal and gambling will undoubtedly raise the cap in future seasons. The cap went up by $5 M after Vegas' first season 2 years ago.

How do these trades help you getting Raty? You only get picks for this year. You shouldn't base your rebuild on the fact that you will have around 5-10% of getting Raty. If you want him, try to acquire picks for next year wink

I know that, but the money lost because of the stoppage will lessen that increase, so it would probably be more like a $1-2 million increase than a $5 million increase.

In one season. Once we get past 2022-23 I’m sure it will start to return to normal.

Seattles payment doen't go towards the cap increase as it isn't hockey related revenue. Strait to the owners pockets

OTT doesnt just "probably say no". OTT laughs and laughs and laughs as they hang up.

Bobby is 2 years @ 7.25 (needed to get to cap floor, rosterable NHL production, vet leadership and his contract is off the books before we need to pay Laf/Byfield etc)

Nilson is better than Martin Jones and is off the books in a year.

Jones is 5.75 for the next 4 more years.

AND you want us to pay a 1st

LOL. Counterproposal:

Jones + SJ 2021 1st

Bobby Ryan (50% retention) and Anders Nilson

That's really not what I was referring to.

It has to do with having an extra arena selling tickets for 41 extra games as well as merchandising. That's a lot more revenues for the league hence increased cap.

Majority of that money would have been spent on different team / arena IMO

I just dont think that adding a new team creates that much more revenue but more or less spreads it amongst an extra team. Sure placing a team in Seattle will create new fans but a good chunck of the money spent on Seattle merch would have been spent just on other NHL teams merch.
The adding of 41 more home games is a creation of a whole other source of revenue but once divided with half for teams and half for players, and taking the players half and spreading it over every NHL team the cap will not be caused to rise that much. The average ticket price was $135 last year, if you take the arenas capacity of 17,400 and say they sell at 90% it only creates 86 million more in revenue which looks like alot but once split between all team owners and then spread over all salary caps will only add about a million onto the cap

That would be assuming you are in a more traditional market where hockey is already widely popular. I could be wrong here but I don't get the impression that Washington is a very strong hockey state. Therefore the potential for increased hockey awareness is higher, closer to Vegas than say Quebec City where hockey culture is already very strong..

Over the past 5 years the cap has increased between $1.5 - 2 M each season except in 2018-19,following Vegas' first season, when it increased by $4.5 M. This suggests that adding a new team in a large market should result in a noticeable increase in the cap.

Which makes sense if you read the rest of what I said. Where I estimated the cap could go up an extra million with the increase of 41 home games
