You don't trade a franchise centre. Ever, it's just too valuable. Matthews is going to be a top 3 player in the NHL very soon. And that is worth more anyone could ever actually trade for.

Lol I never said they should move him that’s just the kind of value(more or less) they should get for him

It's not enough, the price to acquire a player like Matthews is way too much. It doesn't make sense.

Only idiots trade franchise elite centres aged 22 for older players.

And only people who don’t know hockey think they can win the SC with Holl in the top4

He’s a 6th in STL, BOS, TB and COL, a 5th in CAR, WSH, PIT, PHI, VAN, CGY, EDM...

Nope, you just watch him walk as a UFA or you get killed on a max deal

I don't think TOR should trade Matthews either.

I just don't think VGK would accept this.

Frankly, I think neither would accept this.

Fair value? Where?

- Matthews is a 22 year old top 3 shooter in the league and is a centreman than plays above average defence.

- Stone is 28, and while an elite defensive player in the league, with as physical of style that he plays he'll burn out by the time he's 32 or 33 and Toronto is still stuck with that awful contract.
- Karlsson is nothing more than an average 2nd line centre and was really a 1 year wonder where his shooting percentage was through the roof. Not to mention he's 27 and that's Toronto giving up 5 years of window time.
- Krebs is nothing more than a good prospect. They're magic beans. Might work out, might not. & if he does, it'll never be near the level of Matthews. & with Toronto trying to win now, it doesn't make much sense to take on a prospect.

It's really no question for Toronto to not even consider this offer. That's not even mentioning that you have the Leafs giving up the higher pick along with the youngest, and best player in the deal. Plus, Toronto takes on $15.4M in cap space (plus Krebs' contract if he played in the NHL) and they're adding $3.766M to their already tight cap situation and they don't even address any team needs in this idea. Honestly, it's not even worth any consideration from Toronto's perspective.

If I'm VGK I'd decline this honestly.

As good as Matthews is, he just isn't worth two of their best forwards and a good prospect for that matter.

Edit: Also taking in to consideration the fact that both Karlsson and Stone are inked to max term deals, moving them for a guy with only 4 years left just seems bad asset management.

Yes, he is worth that. I'd do it, only if the picks are token out.

TOR trades their young dynamic point per game franchise C and their biggest weakness is left unaddressed...

Stone and Karlsson are very good at defense, if you can't solve it with d-men then solve it with very good 2 way forwards

@Lights found another... Why did I click on this

Only reason I could see Toronto not doing this is due to age gap. Haven't checked up on AM recently. I know Stone is like a top 5-10 player though.

Ik a guy who debates between him (Stone) and Couts at 1-2

Quoting: firezfurx
That's actually factually incorrect, he is quite good at defense. He is certainly a top-10 defensemen in the NHL corrently.

Ditto, a player like Matthews does not get traded.

So cut the crap you’re in no business to talk I don’t even think VGK takes this it was just to show 34’s value.

Quoting: justaBoss
I'm not surprised to see this comment from a Leafs fan.

Yes but Rielly has adequate defense while being dominant offensively. The whole "Rielly has no defense" thing is a bit of a myth.

This deal might work out to be fairly even for the next 2-3 seasons.
But it will likely look terrible for Toronto for the 5 season after that.

THEE YEARS FROM NOW:

- Mark Stone will be in his 30's and signed for another 5 seasons at $9,500,000 (He's great right now but we don't know how long his prime will last)
- Will Karlsson will be in his 30's and signed for another 5 seasons at $6,000,000 (He's been trending down in GPG and PPG for for 2 seasons already)
- Peyton Krebs may or may not be an impact player at NHL level (he hasn't played a pro game yet so I won't make any predictions).

AT THE SAME TIME:

- Auston Matthews will be 25 and entering his prime with 2 years left on his contract (and could potentially be a top 2-3 player in the NHL).

It makes zero sense for Toronto unless Stone + Karlsson are a massive improvement on Matthews for the next 2-3 years (and they're not).
