One more pick in the top 5 to get an elite D prospect next year and I think they are pretty much ready to push for the playoffs and cup.

Silly tank talk. Teams want their young players to progress, to be good, be in a playoff run.

Not a good idea to start buying unless you're sure you have the talent to make a cup run for multiple years.

Tanking on purpose for another year followed by tanking accidentally for another two years while their prospects develop.

Ottawa will have the firepower to compete after the 2021 draft.

I don't mind. As long as after the rebuild we are a solid team.

The worst case scenario is something like Buffalo.

I agree. Not after the 2020 draft though. Still need one more year.

I mean even with McDavid, Edmonton hasn't figured out a whole hell of a lot.

I don't think Edmonton bites on that Russell trade. Too much value to burn a year of a guy with almost no cash left on his deal once his bonus it paid. It's why I really like a Gaborik/Russell swap from Eugene's perspective: the insurance on Gaborik's deal costs more than what the Sens would ultimately owe Russell in cash dollars if they took him on. Russell is also still capable of playing NHL hockey: his only fault is the cap hit doesn't justify the results. I'd do it for a handful of low-end prospects (Cairns, Safin) and the 2022 3rd Rounder, but parting with two picks - especially one from 2020 - is far too much to pay when Russell doesn't have as much negative value as perceived around here.

This is exactly why I want my Hawks to play their hearts out! The hawks have (4) rookies playing in the NHL. They've been gifted a chance to experience playoff hockey. Teams can't waste those opportunities. If they lose...so be it, but if you lose on purpose that mentality will never end. It's never the "perfect" chance to win the freaking Stanley Cup.

accidentally is no problem. It takes time for players to develop, but OTT's going to mess up Brady if they start telling him to stop playing his hardest. That mindset will destroy development.

Ottawa has enough blue chips, they don’t need to tank on purpose. Messing with Brady’s development would likely result in a trade request and send a bad message to the rest of the Sens prospects.

Both have more combined potential than Zadina. Norris could be a top 2C or a decent 1C. I predict he will do what Suzuki did this year, next year. Formenton will be a good 2nd liner. Norris was over a PPG in the AHL as a rookie and Formenton was also super close to a PPG and a rookie

Oh okay
Couple questions then, if you wouldn't mind
Insert >, <, or = where there is ?

Norris ? Zadina (< for me)
Formenton ? Zadina (< for me)
N. Suzuki ? Norris (< for me)
Tkachuk ? Kotkaniemi ? Zadina (>< for me)

Just your opinion

I think Zadina vs Norris will be like Debrincat vs Cirelli.
Zadina will be better than Formenton but I’m really high on Formenton’s skill set. I think Norris and Suzuki will be almost identical long term with maybe Suzuki being a bit more offensive and Norris a bit more defensive. I’m really high on Tkachuk so can’t say I’m not biased but I feel like Tkachuk’s style of play is meant for the playoffs and that’s the end goal so that’s who I take.
