The Parayko trade that you outlined has nothing to with keeping Pietrangelo though. Rielly and Parayko have almost the same cap hit. All that trade does is balance handedness among our defensemen.

Ik there would be other pieces just doing main idea but I think they have to move Parayko to keep petro

If Jake Allen was absolutely useless (he's not) and needed to be bought out (he doesn't), trading him would look like the Steve Mason, Joel Armia, 7th for a 4th trade. So Sanford and Allen for a 4th, worst case.

If Bozak was traded it would look like the Carl Soderberg (4.75m) for Kevin Connauton (1.375m) and a 3rd trade.

Blues wouldn't do it.

Yeah Ik but whats the point of having 3 right d making over 20 million I wouldn’t wanna lose petro if I’m blues and who will take Faulk nobody so I think Reilly is really good replacement for Parayko around same age I think team is better imo then every other scenario

They are developing next one so I think it might help them stabilize the D core more and still have a solid two way team even offensively.

I agree. It's hard to argue why, if Petro was going to extend, Schenn/Faulk/Scandella all got their money before him. But still, there are cap moves that could be done if he does decide to stay. One thing is for sure IMO - Army won't trade Parayko, regardless of what happens with Petro. Good players on good contracts that fit the team perfectly are the last things to be moved, and we had no problem managing the TOI with Petro/Parayko/Faulk as RHD this year.

I think the scenario where it's

Dunn - Pietrangelo
Scandella-Parayko
Gunnarsson-Faulk

is better than swapping Parayko for Rielly. We have our "good" LHD already- it's Vince Dunn. He's not Rielly good offensively, obviously, because Rielly is incredible, but he's better in his own end and we have Pietrangelo for offense (I'm assuming we re-sign him because obviously not trading Parayko if Pietrangelo walks) and Dunn still scores ten+ goals a season. Gunnarsson is good, Scandella is fine, and we have a lot of LHD depth in Mikkola and Perunovich. Meanwhile, if Faulk gets hurt and we've traded Parayko, suddenly Bortuzzo is our second pairing RHD. Yikes.

I agree that it's not tenable to pay your right side 20 million dollars long term, but we have cheap, good players on the left that balances that out financially for now(and allows us to not play Faulk in the top two pairings all the time, because he's bad) so idk if it's necessarily prudent to rush a transition away from that yet.

That's a terrible trade for Montreal. No way are you getting out of Bozak's contract that cheap
