Rule 50.8, subsection (b) (iv), which states:

An SPC with a term of greater than seven (7) years, provided, however, that a club may sign a player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years if that player was on such club's reserve list as of and since the most recent trade deadline. Cause it's a Calgary type of trade, it's what they do is trade and get worse

The Flames likely don't give up Rittich and a 1st and 2nd. As much as Andersen is the defensive corps for the Leafs, the Flames love Big Save Dave and he's likely their starter for the next few years.

They should never have signed him and actually are kinda better post trade. Lucic is putting up what Neal would have put if he continued on the Flames. But now there's someone on the Flames with size and experience pushing people off the puck in the playoffs. Also if Neal scores two more goals, then the Flames got Gustafsson for free because of that trade. They became a 1st in the West team after trading away Hamilton for Lindholm/Hanifin. Not sure if you have point.
