I'm guessing this is based on the predication that St Louis is winning without Tarasenko so why not trade him and his salary and keep the core of the current healthy team intact. I can understand that perspective.
The package itself isn't totally unreasonable although you'd probably have to switch JPO with Addison. JPO's value isn't near his original draft position. Probably throw a 3rd rounder in as well.
Cap wise it isn't horrible but lets say that cap rises to 84mil. That gives you 14 mil to resign RFA's Simon, Kahun, Riikola, Murray, Jarry, and lafferty. That all depends on how Much Murray wants.
You have to prepare to bring in a cheaper veteran Dman to replace Schultz but more of a 3rd pairing guy since MArino has def passed him. This all will be tricky but not impossible. Maybe Bjugstad gets moved maybe one of the goalies etc.
If Tarasenko's shoulder heals properly you get a game changing forward on a decent contract. And to fact check Tarasenko has only missed one season with the shoulder injury i don't know why someone said he missed 2 years with the same injury. And yes i'd prefer Tarasenko over MArner basically because Marner's contract would be impossible for the Pens to fit and not be a horribly unbalanced team like the Leafs are right now.
This would be a bold win now move for the Pens. Crosby and Malkin get an elite scoring winger on each of their lines. Guentzel with Crosby. Tarasenko with Malkin. Depth isn't hurt too much.
Do I think it will happen no but it isn't as outrageous of some people are saying.
