Smart ass comment aside, it's anyone's guess. Every year people give opinions and point projections but this is the NHL, not the NBA, and it's always hard to predict standings. Did anybody predict the Blue Jackets sweeping the Lightning after a historic season last August? No. How about the Blues starting off as one of the worst teams in the league and then going on to win the cup? No. Anything can happen.

As for the Caps without Kuzy, behind Backstrom that center depth doesn't scream contender but it's also not completely atrocious. There's still good pieces there but a Kuznetsov suspension definitely doesn't help their chances.

But yeah I'd guess they still make it. Tough to predict like I said, but they still have Backstrom, Ovi, Carlson, Orlov, Holtby, and good supporting players like Oshie, Eller, Wilson, Hagelin, etc. That's a great group of players.

We would see just how good, or not, Eller is.

I don’t think that Kuznetsov being out has much of an impact on Ovi, other than the power play, and even there his role can be easily replaced.

Well at least the Caps don't need a pay for the zamboni anymore, just send out Kuznetsov between periods to get the snow off the ice!

Fortunately/unfortunately the only way that I see him getting an NHL suspension is if he does not continue to voluntarily participate in a substance abuse program, or if continued actions would draw police attention.
