Holy Goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>A bad backup that posts .907 on a historically bad team? You also failed to mention the retention which would drive up the cost of Andersen. Not that I agree that Toronto should do this but your post lacks a ton of information so it fits your narrative.</div></div>
Are we surprised that anyone evaluating this ACGM is ignoring the nuances to these trades?
TOR Receives: $2M in cap relief, and an NHL capable goalie, albeit what would appear to be a downgrade.
CAR Receives: $900k in cap relief, a 3rd round pick, and what appears to be an upgrade in goal.
DET Receives: An NHL capable goalie that is most likely a lateral move from Bernier, and a LD prospect with top 4 potential, all while taking on cap to help relieve cap impacts of two playoff contenders.
This trade might not work perfectly in terms of value, but the logic behind it would seemingly make sense to even the average CF user.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>this is the kind of move that Detroit needs to make. Getting a good young player plus a bigger contract. THis would help Tampa with their cap issues, but at the same time I doubt they would deal Sergachev.
Most likely they would move one or two of TJ, Killorn, Palat, or Gourde to make cap room for Cirelli and Sergachev. I think Detroit is a good landing spot for those guys if they are willing to waive their NTC/NMC.</div></div>
I don't think just moving 2 middle 6 forwards clears enough cap for them.

UFA Shopping and Cutting Dead Weight
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wingss</b></div><div>Glendening isn't the type of dead weight I would want to cut, he's actually one of the best in the league for what he does. Great work ethic, penalty killer, he's basically elite as far as bottom six players go. He's on a great contract, and he's a hometown kid with a great story of how he got here. That to me is worth a lot. That being said, I don't know how even I could turn down a 2nd for him. He wouldn't be my first person I look to trade, he's not part of the problem, let's just say that. That being said, I doubt we would get a 2nd for him. A 3rd is more realistic I think, and for that it's not worth it to me. I would be happy to move Helm for a 3rd, even retaining his 50%, and I think it's possible that it actually happens. I don't like the Nielsen trade, though. Don't get me wrong, Nielsen is horrible and I want him gone just as much as the next guy, but in no way is it worth it to trade away a 2nd and a 3rd just to get rid of him. His contract is horrible but isn't really an issue right now, and picks are our top priority. I would rather just buy him out in the summer then trade away two high picks. I actually don't hate the signings. I think the RFA ones are solid and would be happy with all those. I think if we could get Mantha and Bert down to around $5.5M or lower that would be a win, but I think these are fair. I think Lindstrom is a solid 3rd pairing guy to slot in behind Hronek and Seider instead of signing DeMelo. It would be a super young blue line, but we're a young team. I'm not a big Galchenyuk fan and I doubt he would want to come here, but if we get Lafreniere or anywhere in the top three that's his spot gone anyway. I really like the Greiss signing, I've been a fan of that all year. As I said, I would rather buyout Nielsen, then we can just sit Abby in the pressbox for the rest of his deal. As the cap increases it will be more manageable, and at least Abby is a great guy off the ice who does a lot for the community and is a homegrown guy, which is more than we can say for Nielsen. He's not an NHL player, but given the choice to buyout Nielsen or Abby, Nielsen is gone 10/10 times for me. Overall very solid, one of the better ones ive seen on here imo.</div></div>
Glendening isn't necessarily dead weight in this scenario. He would be traded to gain a 2nd a clear a roster spot for a young guy. The dead weight here was Abdelkader, Helm, and Nielsen, and also not signing the useless RFAs.
I elected to buyout Abdelkader over Nielsen because I never liked him. But I guess whichever one is more tradeable you keep and the other you buyout.
Also I don't think Lindstrom is NHL capable at this time.

Veleno is good enough to be a 1C. That is his ceiling. If or when that happens is anyones guess.
