I'm ready to remove Vasili form the #3 OA conversation. The risk of him NOT playing in the NHL for at least 2 years is very real. Bowman would have to be 110% sure...and...I truly don't think that's possible considering it's SKA St. Petersburg. With that said...1 tournament doesn't make or break a prospect...Alexander Romanaov was the Russian LD darling at worlds last year, but has done literally NOTHING in the KHL this entire year. What a waste of a year for his development. Also, Filip Gustaffson was supposed to be the next Carey Price...He's still on OTT's farm system. BOTH of these guys can and will play better...they're just examples. I don't know how far down Vasili drops... that'll be interesting to find out.
For me, I'd trade down for Caufield. Yes, I'm that 1 vote up there. Bowman's made his own name for finding these guys, but I kinda feel like..." "The Cat's" out of the bag." " … Yes, stupid Dad pun with double quotes too!... Here's the thing though. Cole isn't a sure thing and the Hawks already have (2)...of what he might...maybe...one day...be. Yes, that's a Freakin Awesome player, but if you can't reasonably trade down then to me it's Cozens or Byram. That also has caveats. If the Hawks trade ANY d prospect away then it's Byram to be in a heart beat. If they don't...Cozens in a heart beat. Why so binary? They're both really talented players. Help out the team sooner rather than later by filling a need. Toews/Kane only have so much time left. Try to maximize it, but through the draft.
