Description

Not sure on their order, but Podkolzin, Cozens, Turcotte, and Byram look like they should go from picks 3-6, maybe Dach would bump one out. That means Detroit gets to land one of those guys. Looking at the future set up of the team, their priority should be Byram, since there are many forwards with potential already in the pipelines.
Not so sure he will be available though. Probably don’t worry about Hawks taking Byram since they’ve drafted so many D now, let’s say they take Podkolzin.
Who do the Avs take then? Cozens, Turcotte?
The Kings are the team with the most needs everywhere, so I could see them possibly going for a forward or probably best available player. But I also would expect them to be the team most likely to take Byram.
If Byram is Detroit’s guy, should they try to trade up to get him at the 3 or 4 pick, or take one of Turcotte, Cozens, Dach at 6?

I really like what a forward would bring to the lineup. But take a look at the situation on D and tell me we don’t need Byram. I think we need him.

I don't think Byram falls below #4 with the AVs, and I don't think it'd make sense for them to trade that pick either. They could use a skilled d-man to bolster their core. Just take BPA when the time comes. I wouldn't worry about Byrum being "the guy."

The wings have so many picks this year and last (and will next year for that matter), so taking BPA on their boards makes a ton of sense because some of them are bound to hit. Take Dach or Cozens if they fall. Hey, maybe we even get lucky like last year and Podkolzin falls or something.

Not worth a top 10 pick tho. If you could trade up 1 or 2 spot to get Byram you should, hes going to be putting up solid numbers on offense like a Josi type

He could be a Parayko type player. Great shutdown guy, put up 30 to 35 points a year.

I think Hughes, Kakko, Pod, Cozens, Byram will go top 5. We should be able to select Turcotte no problem, though I'd prefer a right-shooter (not named Dach).

Really? Man the kid can wheel and at that size, that is attractive. Not huge point producer but that speed will lead to a lot of assists and he has a decent enough shot. Obviously no one knows until he plays but I would be shocked if he ends up as a Larsson. Larsson has no hands. No dangle. No speed. Broberg actually does.

I agree. Parayko is an apt comparison. Probably not as physical as he is but skates wayyyyy better than Colton does

I think Colorado takes a forward (probably a C). The defense is pretty well loaded:

Makar
Timmins
Barrie
Johnson
Girard
Zadorov
Meloche

But, their forward prospect pool is pretty light. Kaut is a legit prospect, but Kamenev can't stay healthy. In the NHL side, Jost hasn't broken out yet after 2 seasons, and everyone else know we know about. They are really a 1 line team. I suspect they'll take a C (either Dach or Cozens).

I have no quantifiable evidence to refute this claim but I am deeply offended Marco

- Parayko skates extremely well for a big man. Extremely smooth, powerful, and the top end speed is probably close to the fastest on our (generally slow) team. (And he's nowhere near as physical as you would think)

Byram if he slides, im taking Turcotte over Cozens and Dach. People think Cozens is gonna end up being a winger at NHL level. If were picking a right shot winger trade back for Cole Caulfield. Theres a thought that Podkolzin might slide because he has 2 more years left on his KHL deal and KHL will throw money at him when thats up, so might scare some teams away. He could fall to six, we didn't think we had a chance at Zadina last year.

Lol not saying Parayko is slow! Just that Broberg is a "faster" skater than he is. I'm only going on video from what I've seen so that is clearly quantifiable, right?

Points scored is a deceiving stat for a dman though......... Gustafsson is now a 60 point dman. Hampus Lindholm is a 30-35 dman............ Jaccob Slavin is a 30-35 point dman..... I think a dman can score less than another dman but be "better" than the higher scoring dman also. If a dman like broberg is a solid defenseman but scores in the 30 range, I'd argue that is more valuable than most 50-60 offensive dmen.

Guys like Yandle, Barrie, Krug are clearly offensive dmen who generally get 50+ points. I think there are countless 30-40 point guys you'd take over them though right?

Either way it, comes down to how you view individual players I guess. There is a big difference between Larsson and Parayko IMO. More than just 10'ish points.

I agree completely. LA takes a forward they need more help scoring. Chicago is 8th in goals for and their 2 best defenseman Seabrook 33 and Keith 35, I think the smart move is a defenseman.

Personally not big on him. I think he's the Rasmussen of this draft. Will go early because of size, but he's too soft and probably not skilled enough to be a top 10 pick.
