I would wager that Matthews is going to get 12 mill no matter what so you may as well get to 8 years for the long term cost certainty. Do you really want to go through this hoopla again in the near future?

I would bet Nylander gets $6.5M on a bridge or $7m+ on a lnog term deal. Marner doesn't deserve $10M, $9M is fair.

Well players have to be willing to sign the contracts also. Nylander might sign a three year deal but it would for more money. Matthews wouldn't sign for five years for so cheap. He could easily get offered sheets up to 10.1m for. five years and its only 2 first, a second and a third. But the Leafs and him might settle on a five year deal.
Thought it is strange that so many think so many Leaf players coming off their ELC are worth so much...I wonder if all ELCs are going to get the same almost precedent setting amounts.

Palhal is right, players have to be willing to sign the contracts. But my thought is that would the players take less money on shorter term deals to likely cash in even more in a few years? It gives them a great opportunity to have a deep team now and have the best chance to win. Any money gave up now would likely be earned back on their 3rd contract.

If we have to give Matthews 12, Marner 10, Nylander 7+, kiss any chance of winning a cup goodbye. We will be too top heavy. In 2 seasons after this we have to resign Andersen, a season after that Reilly and Kadri, and god knows who else. If it indeed takes as much to sign these guys as what’s being reported by the media then you may as well trade Matthews now for a kings ransom. We won’t be able to afford all these guys.

What if we dont sign our young stars to 8 year deals......then you will be in cap hell forever because they will keep asking for raises every time the cap goes up.

I had no clue that you were the agent for all 3 of these players. Write this down, Marner will not get 10M and Kappy will not get 5M. Marner will most likely take a hometown discount.

At least if we only sign them to 5-6 year deals(provided cap hits are lower than long term deals), we can likely have more depth the first few years and have a better chance at winning the cup.
