The jump to $2 is probably due to arbitration eligibility (after 4 years of NHL experience)
Before that I believe it's pretty much a standard deal for every player with bonuses for draft position, point production, games played, awards won

nah, they agreed on what the shorter length would be. They couldn't agree on salary for the UFA years; Ritchie would regret the lower numbers, and Anaheim couldn't see how they could offer more without losing a player somewhere else.

The whole summer I had Ritchie pegged for 3 years at 2.2 million a year so I guess you can say this is a steal for the Ducks

What was he looking for, 8 years at $1.5M??? I've never herd of a player looking for a long term deal that had such a low AAV? No clue why this had to take so long to resolve. How far apart could the two sides have possibly been? Look at Ritchie's numbers.Sometimes I think the agents have the young kids hold out for no real reason. Ritchie has now missed over a month of preparation w/ his teammates. For what? So his agent could save face?

I can't imagine this deal wasn't on the table right from the start of negotiations. This deal is too team-friendly for ANA not to have offered this contract a month ago. I blame his agent for the hold out. Again, it's not like we're talking about Nylander here. Players of Ritchie's caliber rarely end up missing games b/c of hold outs like this. Maybe the NHL should allow all RFA's to become arbitration eligible in the next CBA.

It is because the deal is prorated for this season. Its 1.2M 1.4M 2M, nice round numbers but because the deal is now prorated it throws the cap hit outta wack, also makes it a different cap hit each year.

Good work by Anaheim to not budge significantly. I reckon this, or something close to this (3@1.5M) was on the table from the spring.

Now it leaves William Nylander as the sole holdout heading into the back half of October. Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is meeting in Switzerland with Nylander as we speak. Hopefully they work something out soon - they have 6 weeks until he misses the whole season.

His agent is the worst. He hold out till now to sign for this term and salary??? If I were Ritchie, my agent would be already fired. He harmed his client making him lose all the team preparation and this can hurt his entire season or something...nice job by the Ducks. They could overpay Ritchie and give him a long-term too soon, but they didn't yield to his agent pressure.

Everybody is acting like Ritchie is next coming of something big. The guy has 59 career points in 180+ games. 59!!! He shouldnt have cracked the vault of the bank. he got a deal right were he shouldve. Besides, the Ducks werent in a hurry to get him signed. They are 5-1-1 without him.
