Description

As it stands, this is how I see the team shaping up at some point in the future.

We have too much depth, so a lot of young guys are going to have a hard time finding a spot on the team. Because of this, I think Hughes will go for a Dach/Newhook type move for a young player with dynamic skill (something the team has been lacking for a while). I think the two most probable guys are Zegras or Johnson. Hoping he gets one of those guys at the draft, and we also have the opportunity to draft Lidstrom.

I'm not sure what it would take to get either Zegras or Johnson, but if its any combination of the guys not on the roster below or our 1st this year, I say do it.

If all your better prospects/young players and your 1st are off the table, i dont see how you would get either player. You have to give to get.

Anaheim and Columbus are in the same position as Montreal, though. Both have a ton of volume and depth and also looking to consolidate. Neither team takes your middling bits and pieces for their single player.

Fixed it for you. We have literally the same situation in Columbus, which is why we wouldn't move KJ. The only reasons we'd move him is if 1) he was part of a package for a young star (like EP40), or 2) we wanted a different dynamic player and did a 1 for 1 swap as a hockey trade, or for a top-5 pick. More quantity doesn't help us either.

Both of those teams would uno reverse the same desire (as would pretty much any team in the league, but you chose 2 of the teams with the most B-level prospect depth in the league).

Zero chance they have interest in a deal like that. A Z trade would be predicated on one of Slaf, Rein, or MTL ‘24 1st. If those are off the table there’s no chance Z is on it

Here is the real problem...

Dach trade worked too well and the late blooming of Laffy and Byfield probably showed teams that it's a bad idea to trade young talent before they are 25...

SO I think the market is closed to that type of deal and the only young players available are the duds or the ones you have to overpay with a big risk attached.
