SJS
    Overpay Category:
*ranked in terms of likelihood of an overpay being offered/ received*

    1. Kaapo
His analytics rank him as a top 20 goalie in the league this year, and he’s dealing with the most difficult team in front of him every night (HIS OWN). Blackwood was phenomenal but has cooled offer, Kaapo has stayed hot. He’s playing his way out of SJS and clearly would want to follow Hills footsteps to a cup. I could see a 2nd or a 3rd and prospect if his overpay is met.

    2. MacDonald
700k aav for a elite power forward - lol but I think he could get a 4th which is definitely a highball

    3. Granlund @ 50% (2years)
Change my mind, if he’s at 50% - he clears a firsts value + asset if the overpay is met.

    4. Ferraro
I’m a believer in Ferraro and trading him for scraps would be idiotic but he’s a more polarizing player for fans. Some love him dearly and some hate him dearly. His overpay is a first +

    5. Duclair
Least likely but his overpay would be around a 3rd - 2nd.

      Underpay Category:
*ranked in terms of likelihood of a lowball being offered/ received*

      1. Barabanov
He was unreal last year and has struggled a ton (+ injuries) this year. He could go for a 4th and a prospect or even just a fourth if he doesn’t turn it around in Jan/Feb.

      2. Hoffman
Grier May just move him for FC.

      3. Duclair
If he won’t sign Grier will just move him for best offer.

      4. Rutta or Benning
Grier may move another D if Ferraros overpay isn’t met. And that could come down to one of these two going for whatever he can get.

      5. Kaapo
If no one overpaid for Kaapo, he’ll accept the best offer, and despite Elliotte Friedman saying the goalie price market is absurd right now (why we’ve seen no moves yet) - some teams going to bite first, and if Grier waits too long and Kaapos one of the remaining few, his overpay won’t be met as he won’t let him walk to UFA, so he’ll accept the best offer. So I’d expect Grier wants to be the 2nd-4th goalie trade of the big names, when the values high but there’s a price set that may allow for an overpay.

With so many discussions regarding Ferraro - I’d bet it’s likely that they circle back to Kaapo and give Pytor K some help. They’re a cup team and will be going for the win. Kaapo comes cheap and Sharks can take back the dead weight. The overpay is met here.

*Sharks receive the better of the TWO 2nds in 2024 if CAR reach the ECF, if not they receive the worst of the two*

Washington adds some great depth. Granlund comes in for their third line and provides a serviceable 2C if they get injuries and allows their Center depth to stay strong incase of injury. Phillip is moved for the roster, and Carpenter comes in as a great 12th man/ 13th man up.

        1. Carpenter, Ryan
        2. Granlund, Mikael (2 500 000 $ retained)
        Détails additionnels:
Wash is super interesting, their team analysis suggests they’re “bad” but they’re performing great and in the race, and can easily knock out tampa from the WC race.

They’re going to go in with Ovi and the boys and if Ovi gets hot in the playoffs or down the stretch and holds it, they’re a very tough out in the playoffs.

The leafs just dont need to do this deal, McMann fits well on our current 4th and if we need to really get out of a cap bind we will just waive reaves instead of giving up picks

I enjoyed this. I don't see Philly biting for that little at the draft. The point system or whatever scoring for draft picks is a bit skewed in my opinion. Also Jiricek isn't available that late.

You clearly put a lot of thought into this so I commend you for that. I just can’t see the caps moving that first unless we’re getting a young stud in return. I am personally 60/40 that we’re missing the playoffs, so it’s more likely to be a decent pick imo. Not that you don’t think the same thing, it just doesn’t help us much to add Granlund right now despite the retention.

All things considered, I don’t think the Canes will need to move Raanta. If he doesn’t improve over the rest of the season, they can just waive him and send him to the AHL for 350k, which is very manageable since the Canes are projected to have about 8mil in deadline cap space (after whatever cap accruing calculations are used (witchcraft)).

Now based on the assumption, and the assumption that Freddie ends up returning in less the than a month as projected, I think it’s inevitable for the Canes to run 3 goalies for the remainder of the year. If they end up really turning their eye to the goalie market, I would definitely expect Kahkonen to be their top target.

My only suggestion to the OP for amending the trade, would be Kahkonen and a the 7th for a conditional 2nd (conditions being if the Canes win the cup the Sharks get the best 2nd the Canes have for 2024; if they reach the SCF and lose the Sharks get the worse of the 2 seconds the Canes have for 2024; and if they only make the playoffs (ECQF-ECF) the Sharks get a 3rd and 4th round pick (don’t care what years, but preferably not the same year)). Would that be something the Sharks consider?
