Why would CBJ take a veteran on an expiring deal like Smith in exchange for their captain, signed for 4 more years at a reasonable cap hit? Also, Boston would be better keeping Smith as a depth piece since he has been around for a long time and is very appreciated in the locker room. Plus, they will need this 3 millions to resign Pastrnak and Swayman.

Preferably, the 1st round pick is involved in a trade for a top6 F or top4 D.

Bruins need cap space if they want to add a player in the lineup and have extra players after the trade deadline. Smith will most likely have to be moved. Can't just keep everyone just because they're appreciated (also, two years is not a long time).
