Everyone wants to win big on this site and when its a trade with TO they want it to be so grossly unfair. This guy has long history of trolling the leafs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Have anything to say to go against it? All you said is it's a homer take. I said Marner is better. But you also cannot deny
Svech is paid a lot closer to his value than Marner is.
Svech is as good defensively.
Svech plays a more desirable way
Svech is a better goal scorer
Svech is faster (was fastest skater at the all star game)
Svech is bigger
Marner is more gifted on the puck, but everything else really favors Svechnikov and that's the problem with Marner</div></div>

"Plays a more desireable way" Dude, what does that even mean? Marner is stellar defensively. One of the best two way forwards in the league, if not, a top 3 winger.
Svech gets sheltered. He doesn't face nearly as tough as competition as Marner.
Marner does, and flourishes.
31% dZone starts vs 43% and Marner faces tougher competition overall.
And if you're using the skills competition to rank players... lmao. Kyrou was apparently faster than McDavid one year, but we know that's not the case. Nobody really tries in those. Be for real man.
You bring up goal scoring but they both score around 25-30 per season, Marner just gets more assists.
Okay.. he's bigger.. congrats? By a whole 2 inches. Not like that stops Marner from being better.
Contract wise, yes, I'll take Svech. He's signed long term. But to say he can do what Marner can is a massive stretch and even more of a homer take. You gotta start being a little more subjective in these replies homie.

Rumours
you know what would be great....if everyone on this thread didn't offer up their opinions as facts
I think it's fair to say we've all been surprised at the packages some players have gotten.
Things we've heard in the media or read on twitter didn't end up coming to fruition...whether on the high side or the low side.
I personally don't think Bertuzzi is worth a first and a good prospect...but that's me. Would I be shocked if a GM out there does? No. I also wouldn't be shocked if Bertuzzi goes for a 2nd, 3rd and B prospect.
The one big fact is that none of us are in the war rooms. We don't know how close or how far Detroit and Bertuzzi are from reaching an extension. It certainly stands to reason that Yzerman's willingness to trade him this week is higher than last week given the steep mountain they need to climb to get into a wildcard spot.
Look at Chychurn...he's been on the block for 2 years...sitting out weeks awaiting a trade...and then ends up going to Ottawa for an underwhelming package. It's a very fluid trade market and negotiating positions are constantly changing. I've certainly been incorrect on assumptions I've made as have all of us on here
So do yourselves a favour.....offer your opinions, freely...be open to being judged on them...that's all fine and good...just don't preach from some false position of authority. Debate and discussion are good. Embrace it

Yeah, that's more what I *think* they would do, not what I want them to do. I still say the best move is to try and play both sides - see what you can get peddling Varlamov & Mayfield, replace them with either a body you get back in the trade or someone from the pipeline (Skarek for Varly and Hutton for Mayfield?) and maybe flip out another, lesser asset for a middle 6 upgrade (JVR? Athanasiou? Jeez, I dunno.)
The biggest stumbling block they're going to have to adding is the logjam in the East - I have to assume that all of the 7 teams fighting for that last playoff spot (save for maybe the Capitals) are going to hang on to their assets, meaning you've suddenly turned this into a seller's market, and prices are going to go up for the Andreas Athanasious of the world.

I've been saying if they move him, they should look at the Josh Manson package as the basement of what they should get (a 2nd rounder and a strong prospect). This would arguably be overkill - the pick value is a little stronger than a current 2nd, and Niemela alone would be a fine comp for Drew Helleson.
edited to add: i think we're too close to the deadline for them to go full sell mode, though - especially considering they've won 2 in a row without Mat Barzal in the lineup. Barring something catastrophic happening in the next 8 days, I would think they add some mid-tier pieces instead of selling their pending UFAs

I think the package is a bit too rich for Mayfield.
Seems like a 2nd or 3rd would be fair value...however to get Uncle Lou to trade him in the middle of a playoff race...I imagine it would take a premium...so agree with the above post that a 2nd and a prospect would need to be on the table to get Isles to think about it.

laffing my ass off
Kampf would not be the odd man out.
Kampf makes it in over Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, ZAR, Engvall and Lafferty. And that has zero disrespect to any of the players I mentioned.
He is basically our number 1 most valuable bottom 6 guy. Acciari's may be up there as well.
3rd for Lafferty is reasonable though. Leafs should consider.

I think Lafferty will be hated when he takes untimely penalties, moving out either Kampf or Kerfoot for him would probably be unwise. They added Acciari already don't really need to add him as well. If they can add him at a low cost without making a subtraction from the NHL roster, then so be it. The main focus now should be looking to make an add to the D-core, and waiting to see how the Leafs forwards fair in the next few 3 to 4 games before the deadline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>whatsmyageagain281</b></div><div>Why does anybody seem to think they know what Jake Muzzin is thinking at all times? When he was traded to Toronto his wife was cheesed moving away from Cali (friend of mine is her brother). He could very well be OK with moving to a market with no stress and low expectations where he can collect his money and ride out the rest of his contract. I know we want to believe everyone is ultra competitive all the time and are OK with the stresses of a big market but that's not always the case.</div></div>
Bad contract = there is no way they will ever leave
star player = there is no way they will stay.
