Yeah finding a Marner deal that makes sense for both sides is near impossible

This is a joke right? Svechnikov straight up has more value. He's not the better player, but he's signed long term, makes 4 million less, is faster, as equally gifted defensively, and plays a powerforward role. Not to mention, Svech is the better goal scorer.

I like Svech but let’s not stretch it out😭 Kind of a homer take there.

Have anything to say to go against it? All you said is it's a homer take. I said Marner is better. But you also cannot deny

Svech is paid a lot closer to his value than Marner is.
Svech is as good defensively.
Svech plays a more desirable way
Svech is a better goal scorer
Svech is faster (was fastest skater at the all star game)
Svech is bigger

Marner is more gifted on the puck, but everything else really favors Svechnikov and that's the problem with Marner

I agree that he has more value but he is not a better goal-scorer than Marner.

I disagree.

To make this a Canes example, this is like saying Svechnikov is a better goal scorer than Teravainen. Teravainen has a lethal shot but he never uses it. Marner is the same. Teuvo is much more likely to set up a picasso like pass, so is Marner. Marner is WAY better than Teuvo and I'm using this as a pure example, but using that same logic, I'd argue Svech is the better goal scorer because he actually like... scores.Svech had 7 fewer goals in 30 less games.

That's fair enough... I can see that argument

"Plays a more desireable way" Dude, what does that even mean? Marner is stellar defensively. One of the best two way forwards in the league, if not, a top 3 winger.
Svech gets sheltered. He doesn't face nearly as tough as competition as Marner.
Marner does, and flourishes.
31% dZone starts vs 43% and Marner faces tougher competition overall.

And if you're using the skills competition to rank players... lmao. Kyrou was apparently faster than McDavid one year, but we know that's not the case. Nobody really tries in those. Be for real man.

You bring up goal scoring but they both score around 25-30 per season, Marner just gets more assists.
Okay.. he's bigger.. congrats? By a whole 2 inches. Not like that stops Marner from being better.

Contract wise, yes, I'll take Svech. He's signed long term. But to say he can do what Marner can is a massive stretch and even more of a homer take. You gotta start being a little more subjective in these replies homie.

Not sure what you even mean when you say "plays a more desireable way"?

Marner on his career averages .33 Goals per game, Svech averages .32. Marner is nominated for a Selke, Svech has never been nominated - hadn't even received a single vote in either 2021-22 or 2020-21.

Contract is better, of course I will agree with that. But come on...the comparison you're making is out to lunch otherwise.

I would say that the defense that you're going to get from Svech is in a weight class below if not the same weight class as the defense you're going to get from Marner... The votes for Selke shouldn't be trusted as an accurate measure of who's a good defensive forward since Elias Petterson and Jordan Staal are two of the best defensive forwards in the Game and they rarely get Selke votes because they don't represent NHL franchises that get a lot of eyeballs
