trading necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>You are right, roughly 1 million in dead cap for 12 years can cause complications, especially when trying to turn a team with a few young potential stars to a contender. I still think there is a world where KK can be a middle of the road 2c or solid 3c, there have been flashes but absolutely no consistency. He is still only 23 and give him 2 years with powerplay time and 2nd line minutes you will know what you have by the time he is 25. Ideally for the Hawks he would have turned himself into a steal of contract while also obtaining assets for him but with the cap rising significantly over the next couple years the $865,000 shouldn't be too much if he doesn't pan out. Whoever and if someone trades for KK will need to weigh the assets coming in for taking his contract on and the chance they think his contract lives up to expectation during their projected cup window. It is a very unique situation like tugspiedman mentioned since no current cup contender would take on his 4.8 but if a rebuilding team thinks he has a chance to live up to his contract in a couple years while also accumulating some draft picks it would be worth it.
I will always wonder what would've happened in the canes kept trocheck instead of giving KK that money.</div></div>
For sure. They probably should've kept Trocheck, tried to do a bridge with KK or traded him, and maybe not gone after Burns. But, hindsight is always 20/20.

trading necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>I think the thought process from a canes fan perspective is that the hawks can take a risk on KK while accumulating an asset or 2. If he doesn't work out after 2 years in which the Hawks most likely won't be contending anyways they can buy him out for the cheap price. Best case for ya'll is KK turns out to be an actual player that fits your timeline and will be able to develop without the pressure of winning a cup. Worst case, take the few assets the canes gave you and walk away from his contract after 2 years.</div></div>
Makes sense. KK’s term and low AAV is so unique for a player of his age lol. Not unimaginable that there’s an exception.

What to do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>It is weird with Necas. He was drafted as a center and it has been preached the last few years center is his "natural position". However, the first thing you can point to about Necas not being an effective center is his FO%. I also don't think he fit what RBA envisions as a center (faceoffs and defense being big factors) but in a system that allows more freedom, I think Necas can flourish down the middle, just needs to work on his faceoffs.</div></div>
Yes, team system can have a pretty large influence on a players effectiveness at a position. It's frustrating to have a good player that just doesn't seem to fit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boos</b></div><div>Honest question, Cainiacs.
If the Canes go down in, say 5 or 6, is Rod the Bod toast in Carolina?</div></div>
Rod will have a job in Carolina as long as he wants to stay. He is the Hurricanes as much as any one person can be.

Andersen needs to play better. Can't give up one weak goal per game or they have no chance.

keeping jake jarvy necas no kk skjei pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>Totally agree, on top of this being my prediction on how this off season will turn out, it also highlights the weaknesses that can develop. The main ones being a 2c behind Aho (will Jarvis or Necas eventually move to center or will we need to acquire one?), and RD once Burns retires and Pesce walks. Having Morrow is great but after next season I can see RD and C being an issue.</div></div>
Definitely concerning. Unfortunately kk obviously didnt take care of that 2c issue and necas has kinda passed that point in his career to move him there so it defaults to jarvis which makes for a very small top 2 centres.
It wouldn't shock me if they move necas and then try and find a different solution at C. You kinda have to do that or roll the dice again with kk and see if the play he had to start the year can be replicated.

Canes Next Year Keeping Guentzel Moving Necas
I could see this working for Carolina. Though, I'd rather not overpay Skjei and just bring Necas back.

Canes Game 1 Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>Where do you think he slots in our lineup? I'm also skeptical of him (especially with him at 3.9 next year and all the guys to resign) but holding out hope he can regain his form as he is still only 31. I did hear a quote today of what Barry Trotz said after Washington won the cup "Kuzy was our best 200 foot player." If Trotz can bring that out of him I'm thinking Rod has a chance as well.</div></div>
That was 5 years ago.
Kuzy likely a winger to help KK or drury’s lines add some offense. Probably start tomorrow at 4LW

If we’re retaining its gonna have to be one of your top prospects. If we’re not I think it still has to be a better prospect anyways

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>Yeah but they aren't signed to one of the best long term contracts in the league. That is what makes Erikson Ek so valuable, he would be such a god fit for the canes though.</div></div>
He would be a great fit but I just don't see him fetching like multiple firsts or anything crazy.

That would be about right. I was very surprised that the canes haven't been linked to Buch. Maybe they will be soon we'll see he would be a great fit there.
