Description
Wondering if the Isles decide to try to sell Nelson and do a quick re tool around a core of Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, and Sorokin. Is this the correct value for Brock Nelson with an extra year of retained salary? I feel like the canes eventually need to use their surplus of "solid prospects" to land a true 2c to get over the hump. Would probably want add a depth winger on top of this trade at the deadline like a Kubalik so Lemieux hopefully doesn't see ice time in the playoffs should injuries occur like last season.

I am not too familiar with the prospect, but I am guessing that return is pretty light.

If we’re retaining its gonna have to be one of your top prospects. If we’re not I think it still has to be a better prospect anyways

He is a solid prospect. I believe he was actually the youngest player drafted in the whole class last year. Really impressed at pre season camp and came close to making the full time roster. Also had a pretty good performance at world juniors besides being absolutely laid out by McGroarty in the finals lol.

The canes manage their cap well enough that we don’t need retention to lower the cost

This is a bad return even without retention

I would guess that the value for Nelson half retained is a little over 2 first round picks (assuming they are late) I could see the value being there if the Isles like the prospect.

He was for sure close... He was literally the last cut. He's playing a bottom-six role for Leksands which is why he doesn't have the greatest production

He's one of the Canes top 5 prospects, FUS... plus, you'd have to retain to get this sort of value for Nelson. He's a career 40-50 point guy that went nuts last year. I know he's on pace for like 60 again last time I looked, but he's also on the wrong side of 30.

Don't, he's clueless. FUS was incredibly close to making the roster but that is a user that buries their head in the sand if things don't fit the narrative

Lolol biggest homer on the site.

Remember when you thought Andres bjork was European and needed to adjust to North America?

Remember when you said doggie Hamilton was a Norris lock?

Remember anything you've said about kotkaniemi?

beat me to the punch. Nelson is quietly one of the best 2Cs in the league over the past few years. He was solid through his age-29 season (averaging about a 23-22-45 per 82 GP) but hit another level once he turned 30 - he's basically averaged a hair under 38 goals per 82 and has scored at a 70 point pace since the beginning of the 2021-22 season. He's always been a borderline elite shooter (career 13.2% in those first 8 seasons before he went off) and I think for whatever reason, pairing him with Kyle Palmieri has unlocked something in him. Definitely helps that he's been deployed more offensively over the past few seasons, but I think that's a chicken/egg scenario - is he scoring more goals because they're using him as a more offensive player, or is he being used more in the O-zone because he's scoring so many damn goals?
