<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>Trocheck and Rielly have the exact same terms.
If both Hamilton leaves as UFA and Skjei gets claimed by Kraken, your D is left with significantly bigger holes than your offense.
Difference is that you have the forwards to replace the hole of moving Trocheck creates in Necas for example, but you have no such D-men to fill the aforementioned gaps.
And there aren't really any better options in free agency. But once again, there is some forwards able to net you a forward. In this case it's Saad. He could very well take Necas' former role.
I'm willing to bet CAR is better off moving Trocheck to fill the holes in that defense if it brings them a top pair D-man. And gaining some relatively good assets for a D-man who's most likely walking considering that CAR has already given him permission to negotiate with other teams is smart asset management if you ask me.
You could always garner something like a third rounder for Hamilton's rights in the draft but if you ask me, Kerfoot+Hållander+2nd is a better haul than that for virtually no cost.</div></div>
I guess the big thing comes down to necas has shown nothing to say that he is ready to take over as a 2c. I’m also assuming that Reilly will walk in a year and he is coming off a poor season. Personally I’d rather sign Martinez in this case and keep trochek

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>How is moving a walking UFA and a 2C for a first pair D, mid-6 F and future assets "terrible"?</div></div>
It’s one ufa for another ufa. Kerfoot doesn’t really do anything for the canes apart from being a depth winger. The canes would then have to go find a second line center again which they had been looking for for years before getting trochek.

Not sure I see Tampa getting that kind or value back for gourde. He is a good player, but everyone knows Tampa has to clear cap and gourde is overpaid. My guess is you get maybe a 2nd or a 3rd and that’s it

What I would do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dcavery1972</b></div><div>Preds will not trade Forsberg....especially for that junk.</div></div>
I feel that is a very fair offer. A first, a good young roster player who wants a bigger role, and a good prospect. Forsberg has a year left on his deal and has had injury issues so the return is not what it would have been a couple years ago

Oh i agree completely. If the canes can't get coleman, i would have no problem just resigning Mcginn. If they go mcginn instead of coleman i might even look to go for Martinez instead of Oleksiak

No Dougie
Dumba to the canes just isn’t going to realistically happen. The wild will want to deal him before the expansion draft so they do not have to protect him. The canes wouldn’t be Interested until after the expansion draft because they would be forced to expose bean. While the trade and the target may make sense, it just doesn’t work out for the teams

pre expansion
It doesn’t make sense for the canes to do this deal pre expansion because it means giving away bean to Seattle. If the canes make any kind of move on defense it’s post expansion

Trading Kaprizov
That’s going to be a very hard trade to win from a wild perspective. A lot of these targets are probably too lofty with so much uncertainty built in. From a canes perspective I would do necas 1 for 1 knowing kaprizov was going to sign but that’s a big if.

Potential Part 8
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dzinger18</b></div><div>I 100% agree with you, but this is the last edition. Barrie may cost more and we have the cap to pay that if he does. I already have Hoffman too by the way. The point of getting Oleksiak was to make an ultimate physical bottom par, and I think Martinez would cost more than 3 mil (maybe 5 mil). This is what I think of each of the lines:
Svech-Aho-Turbo (The ultimate passing , playmaking, and scoring line. Makes for some great hockey. You can now put all of your eggs in the same basket because of the strong depth we now have.)
Hoffman-Troch-Necas (Speed and scoring. Trocheck can have some grit, a great netfront presence, and a deadly shot. Hoffman is known for scoring goals and has been the "finisher" on most of his previous teams. Necas has the speed and energy for this line. He has insane puck handling ability that he combines with his speed to become an all around amazing player.
Nino-Staal-Coleman (Very good checking line. Coleman with the puck handling, Staal with the netfront, and Nino as the scorer. All 3 have a bit of grit and bite to their games too.)
Marty-Lory-Quickie (All around great energy. This is really just a different look to the "energy" line from last season.)
Slavin-Barrie (Same thing as Slavin-Hamilton. One more offensive guy and a more defensive guy. Both are outstanding hockey players and will likely get lots of minutes.)
Bean-Pesce (High-flying offensive pairing, while Pesce can still cover for Beans mistakes. I think Bean can improve tremendously playing with Pesce too.)
Oleksiak-Hakanpaa (Probably the best physical defensive pairing in hockey. Two huge guys who love to play the body and have a good defensive mind.)
Ned (Obvious pick for starter. He'll get more experience under his belt and can become fully adapted to the NHL.)
Halak (Veteran with more experience to give Ned rest. Maybe he can mentor him a bit too.)</div></div>
Yeah i pretty much agree with all of that. I guess my biggest concern is that im not sure Bean is ready to play on the 2nd pair. If you go with Oleksiak over Martinez, it forces bean to play in the top 4. I still think bean is a year or 2 away from that

I think Barrie may be closer to 6 than 5, everyone in on Hamilton will go to him after he signs. With the extra cap I’d honestly look at maybe Martinez instead of oleksiak or maybe even hall for Hoffman. Love the Coleman signing

I’d like to see maybe a little better defensemen than Oleksiak, but this is probably the best option so far. I think I’d personally switch tuevo and Coleman, but we all know RBA will change the lines around often

I think that is maybe the best return you cold hope for with dougie. I think the trades all make sense when put together as a whole. Good team overall, only thing I’d like to see is maybe moving foegele for another scoring winger with killorn on 3rd line

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OnlyBadDeals</b></div><div>It is more of a small upgrades type of ACGM. I think Colton would be an improvement over Foegele because he is a better goal scorer in my opinion and I think it's the main area of need for the Canes.
I really just made this because I'm tired of debating over the value of Eichel</div></div>
Oh I don’t disagree in the slightest. I just think the canes are best served with new lw in the top 6 and bumping nino down to the 3rd line. Would give more scoring depth throughout the lineup.
The Eichel think is fun and all, but trochek is a more than serviceable 2c with staal as the 3c. Wing is a bigger need than center

How is a point per game player with a contract under 5 mil a rental? Either way that is more than the canes are going to give up. Take out Jarvis add in a 2nd rounder and id say its fair. Eichel is a great player but he has the neck injury and a 10 mil cap hit is tough to take on

I mean that would be no issue, this is assuming dougie is gone. Its really just a matter of whether the canes are willing to start mortgaging the future to win
