Ducks Side of a Marner Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theo_nollaf</b></div><div>Honestly, yeah. This deal suits both sides as far as I'm concerned. As a Ducks fan, I'm curious what your thoughts are on LaCombe and the future of the defence in general. Is he worthy of being the centrepiece of a trade like this?</div></div>
He seems to be developing into a fine 3/4 D, he can play both sides, not the most physical player but makes smart plays and has pretty good awareness in his own end. Nothing you're asking for are off limits pieces, when frames in the context of those pieces <strong>AND</strong> ~8 million in cap space it makes a lot more sense for the leafs.
The question really becomes, is Marner a target for Verbeek, and I don't think he is. I don't think there's appetite to pay a perimeter player superstar money.

seeing what sticks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theo_nollaf</b></div><div>Out of curiosity, don't you think that Boston would be better off spending down the middle? I understand that Poitras, Zacha, and Coyle, are all levels of good, but Boston still has a clear need for a top-line center. Does Guentzel (I've also seen Meier) really help you improve as a roster when you have middle-six guys centering him? I think that that has been Boston's biggest flaw over the past few years when they have struggled to win in the playoffs.</div></div>
definitely agree, the glairing need is for a true top line center. just not sure at the moment they have trade chips for it and there is no one on the UFA market that would fill the void, so the possible pivot is to get some higher scoring wingers to make up the offence and hope the centers (Zacha/Coyle) can maintain in and around their production from this year.

I have THE trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theo_nollaf</b></div><div>Agreed, and I appreciate the thoroughness. A big part of any Marner sign and trade to me would be a team trying to use him at center. He’s has the skill, size and smarts, it’s just a matter of taking the time for the transition. Toronto never needed it, but in Nashville he could make sense down the middle. If not, I absolutely agree that the Predators should come nowhere near this considering their depth at RW.</div></div>
Trying to turn a guy into a center at age 27 is too risky a gamble for me.

I have no horse in this race, but this doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. Props to you for that, and for getting creative.
If Nashville does want to move Saros, I could see Toronto making a Marner-Saros swap (with picks/prospects to adjust). Woll is a great backup to the first true 1A goalie Toronto has had in a while. Entirely dependent on Nashville wanting Marner, though, but I could see a team 10th in GF/G, 16th on PP%, and with a RW depth of Nyquist, Beau, Evangelista, and Smith being interested in an upgrade.

I feel like for that price we'd have to throw in Matthews too, maybe Nylander and a pick as well. Almost too good to be true, getting our hands on future hall of famer Mikael Granlund AND leafs legend/GLOAT Barabanov

What would a Flames Rebuild Look Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Theo_nollaf</b></div><div>Ice time, mostly. If he is as good as many are saying he is, which could very well be true, he would not be averaging well less than 20 minutes of ice time a game and Ottawa would not be trading for guys like Chychrun</div></div>
Oh but ice--time is a very basic argument... NHL teams obviously look at a lot more than this, they all spend a good amount of money on advanced stats.
The reason why Brannstrom doesn't get more ice-time is simply because he is a LHD. Thomas Chabot, Jake Sanderson and now Jakob Chychrun also are... Brannstrom was playing behind Chabot/Sanderson last season. Adding Chychrun is not ideal in the LHD/RHD balance but I think they were assuming Chychrun would play RD (he did in Arizona at times), but it's actually Chabot who has been doing it. They really needed a Top-4 RHD but Chychrun is the guy Dorion went after. Again not ideal and Dorion rarely does good moves so not going to complain on this one
https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/Fantasy/nhl-fantasy-hockey-top-50-defenseman-rankings-pools-282830728
20. Jakob Chychrun, OTT
23. Jake Sanderson, OTT
39. Thomas Chabot, OTT (INJ.)
Ottawa has 3 Top NHL D-men and they are all LHDs so it's going to be very hard for Brannstrom to crack more minutes in Ottawa. In the past he did play several 22+ minutes games (and looked good) when Chabot was injured but this time he got injured first... He will eventually be moved to get another opportunity somewhere else and to make room for Tyler Kleven who is more the type they need to add on their defense (physical and mean)

Michkov Drops to 2nd Round
A couple of things:
1. The article speculates on the length of Michkov's contract, we already know this is lol.
2. How in the hell would a MTL reporter have any reliable information in on the death of Michkov's father? This is rumors and speculation.
3. If you honestly believe Michkov's father was murdered because he was trying to get Michkov out of his deal, do you think he will take that? He is coming to the draft with his agent Fedorov... if his father was murdered by the organization he is currently under contract with (that's insane) I would expect Michkov would not go back to Russia after the draft the same way Malkin had to escape his organization to join the NHL.

Jackets make a huge deal at the Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>texier and nyqvist are not pieces that would be the center of any nylander trade.</div></div>
Toronto is a win now team. The idea is for Toronto to get a player that can replicate a lot of the points that Nylander generated but also to get a younger player that can contribute and make Toronto a deeper team. They create cap space to get better goaltending and they also get some draft picks including a possibly great pick. Realistically, Toronto is going to be hard pressed to find a team willing to take on the cap hit without Toronto having to take back cap. You add in the ask for young talent that produces at or near the same clip of Nylander, and that becomes almost impossible. Nylander has two years left on his contract but there are no guarantees he re-signs. The team acquiring him is not going to give up that much for him. Toronto have to be more realistic about the ask.

Manson for Woo and the second is fair, in my opinion, and would satisfy Anaheim. Here, you've added Roussel as a cap dump and paid for him with DiPietro. I think that's unappealing to both sides. Anaheim won't mind taking on a cap dump, but we have two excellent goalie prospects already in the pipeline, and you shouldn't be trading your best goalie prospect, especially if you're also moving Holtby. And you can't exist on a 20-man roster.
I think that you should try to figure out some way to move Schmidt.
Sadly, I think you won't have Virtanen's cap hit to worry about this season.

they can. Just means they have to move on from landeskog and pivot to a Saad or Coleman level player to fill his spot in the top 6, but it can be done.
The potential of a Generational level talent like Makar is not someone you walk away form bc of an additional 2m on his contract

He plays hard minutes against the other teams top lines. He gets buried in defensive responsibility. While playing with anchors like Cogs and Comeau. His paycheck is high for his offensive numbers, but he is not a cap dump
