Dumba for Miller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Miller is much much much much much better than Dumba. They are both rentals and about the same age. Minnesota adds a lot</div></div>
There's about two too many much's in your thinking there bub. Dumba isn't an AHL player, he’s a Legitimate Top 4 Defenseman. Who happens to be a RHD, which last I checked carried the second most value in the league after top-six centers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>Plus lots

Dumba is as much of a rental as Miller is. Last I recall they BOTH are under contract for next year and next year only. They're both UFA's next offseason.
The fact Dumba's value is less because he's only a *rental*, applies to Miller just as much as it does Dumba.
Keep that in mind.
Is Miller the better player?
Sure.
And that is why he is getting more than just a legitimate Top 4 Defenseman back. He's also getting an extremely solid defense prospect with 2nd pairing upside, and... as <a href="/users/TanSor" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@TanSor</a> said likely a pick back as well. I disagree that pick would be a 1st for a JT Miller that would also be a *rental*, but could be a 2nd or 3rd instead.
Because the difference for rental JT Miller and Dumba+Hunt isn't.... plus lots. It's plus little.

Miller
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildwinswhen</b></div><div>I could see us doing this. It makes the whole lineup better in a way that Fiala wouldn't simply because Miller is a C.
Would we have space to sign him for 7-8M AAV on an extension? Even with letting Dumba walk and Wallstedt at G2 in 2023, we still need to sign Boldy and Rossi to extensions within the cap crunch timeframe.</div></div>
I think Miller is just an objectively better player than Fiala (particularly in the playoffs), period, so aside from the positional value this would be a better roster, in my opinion.
We have about $20M in space next offseason with this trade. Say Miller gets $8M, that leaves $12M remaining. Russo's article today mentioned a possible bridge deal for Body around 2-3 years at $3-3.5M AAV. It was complete speculation, but let's say he's right and Boldy signs a 3 year, $3.5M AAV contract which leaves us $8.5M. Rossi is on his ELC for 3 more seasons including next and we are essentially free from any cap penalties due to Parise/Suter by the time his extension would kick in. For simplicity, I'll count ELC deals as $1M, so that's Rossi, Faber, and Wallstedt leaving us with $5.5M in cap space to re-sign/replace Gaudreau, Duhaime, Talbot, Kulikov, and a depth forward. I think all of those guys you could re-sign/replace with players around $1M AAV. There's probably an extra $500K or so due to my rounding on ELC's - either way it's tight, but doable.

I could definitely see it. Russo has been saying BG hasn’t had talks with Dumba on an extension but There hasn’t been much noise around trading for Dumba. It’s possible both are moved this off-season, but Dumba is most likely moved at the trade deadline if we’re outside looking in or he’s gone UFA next year.

Okay.. you gotta chill. Like calm down. If Minnesota fans want this much, then so be it. Doesn’t mean you have to trade with them. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. It went from crazy habs fans, to Minnesota overvaluers to busting rangers. Just because they think differently, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. You don’t have to get that upset about it.. it’s okay. Just target one of Konecny, Boeser, or Garland if you don’t think you can do a Fiala trade.

So based on your valuation, your offer would be something like JBD and a 2nd round pick for a near PPG winger that can drive a line. While I agree there is no way he is getting Norris, Guerin isn't going to give him away for peanuts.

The tale of Dorion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>First off, this isn't a negative comment about Fiala, just some Sens info to compare.
I'd expect Fiala to continue at his 0.8 PPG rate of the last 3 seasons. Batherson has a higher PPG than Fiala right now, at 1.10 PPG, and has demonstrated a consistent nature to his production. Stützle is expected, by most, to be a near point per game player. Fiala would probably be 3rd or 4th on the Sens moving forward at his current production levels, depending on Tkachuk. That's what the Sens need, definitely.
I think Pinto's value lies in several areas, not just production. He's a right hand shot, plays centre, and has demonstrated strong faceoff skills, which should only improve. He has good NHL size at 6;2" amd 195 lbs, and could still put on more muscle as he matures.
I'm not saying I would do this trade, but if it did happen, know that Ottawa is giving two very good assets for Fiala.</div></div>
I know, I wasn’t trying to undermine Pinto and the 2022 1st but what I’m saying is that Fiala’s volume of production is a lot higher than any of those guys. Fiala has scored at a .61ppg clip through 384 career games, Pinto has scored at a .47ppg clip through 17 games, Josh Norris has scored at a .64ppg clip through 95 games, Stutzle is scoring at a .54ppg clip through 101 games, and Tkachuk is scoring at a .65ppg clip through 244 games. So what I’m trying to say is that, yes all those Sens players are putting up great numbers so far through their respective careers but Fiala has put up similar if not higher numbers than them through 100+ more games than all of them. He’s consistent and Dorion would know exactly what he’d be getting in Fiala, whereas Pinto is a very promising player but he is still an unknown and the 2022 1st is a completely unknown player as of right now.

Boldy is at a point per game through his first 16 games in the NHL, when Niemela does that and shows his game can translate to the American League game let me know, until then I would suggest you think before you speak.

Muzzin is 33 years old, turning 34 in 42 minutes and isn’t half the defenseman Dumba is lol

What does he cost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>3 years at wing in the KHL makes him a wing. If he can't crack the KHL lineup as a center there he has no chance of making it as a center in the NHL.</div></div>
Russia, let alone the best teams in the KHL, don't play younger centers <em>at all</em> at that position if they're considered deep enough. If the player is considered good enough to play in the KHL, then they're getting played but won't be at center displacing a veteran. They'll stay at wing until a center spot opens up. Not before.
The KHL is a veteran centric league, they always get deferential treatment. Especially the centers. The literal best Russian prospect on the planet , potential franchise center to boot, and SKA teammate of Khusnutdinov who is already better than Marat, Matvei Michkov, can't crack the lineup in St. Petersburg despite playing 13 games in the KHL thus far this year. He was always the extra forward, and guess what... he always played wing too. Instead Michkov is currently playing and lighting up the MHL. Go figure.
At the the Russian U20's Khusnutdinov and Michkov play on the same line. Despite Michkov being the better player and center, Khusnutdinov plays the 1st line center pivot role while Michkov plays the wing. In Russia, seniority and age matters. If one their top-six guys goes out or leaves/traded, then there's a chance Khusnutdinov will get his shot at center. His not playing there to date is not indicative of some inability to play the position. It's due to a different style and ideology of how to play the game and how they develop younger players.

I didn't make the premise of the thread, so take that up with OP.
Teams trade 1sts for 2 months of mediocre players at the deadline, so I have no doubt that teams would trade a 1st for at least one year of Fiala, a player they could easily re-sign.

Cause it's not worth it for the Wild when we can get an additional 1st+prospect if we just trade him elsewhere.
If Ottawa wants Fiala and their 1st is involved, maybe the Wild can add a lesser pick, but it won't be a 1st. Ottawa is still getting a 70+ point first line play driver for their troubles.

The Wild have been a middle of the pack team their entire existence; rarely bad enough to draft top 10. Years of Fletcher's drafting was meh at best, which hasn't left them much to work with so the fact they're playing as well as they are when every year people pick them to miss the playoffs is something. You're the one making it seem like your team is run ideally when they've failed to meet expectations in the last 2 seasons. But hey since you're the one bringing up ancient history, the two teams have met 3 times in the playoffs and the Avs have lost twice to the mess of a franchise you're chirping on. lol
