Guerin doesn't want to trade dumba. Dumba has to 10 team no trade. Minnesota isn't making their d worse by trading dumba

Dumba has been available for 2+ years, he’s certainly still available now. Dumba is from Canada, I’d doubt he has Ottawa on his 10 team list. We’ve got a cheap Dumba replacement on the roster already in Addison.

I could definitely see it. Russo has been saying BG hasn’t had talks with Dumba on an extension but There hasn’t been much noise around trading for Dumba. It’s possible both are moved this off-season, but Dumba is most likely moved at the trade deadline if we’re outside looking in or he’s gone UFA next year.

Why not? It frees up more cap and gives Guerin more options. We only have $6.5 million in cap room this offseason to re-sign Middleton, add a goalie, add a depth forward and have room for injuries. It's going to be extremely tight as is. Moving Dumba gives us breathing room and opens up an whole higher tier in free agency.

I just think if you’re moving Dumba you probably shouldn’t move Fiala because it’s going to be really hard to replace his output. But it also seems like it’s obvious at this point that BG is moving Fiala so at that point I would assume moving Dumba doesn’t make sense.

Dumba is overpaid but still a solid second pairing guy. If you replace him it’s not going to be for a league min guy and you’d be look at somebody making 4m so not sure the difference is worth it

If we trade Dumba, it would still require another piece being moved to afford Fiala. That $6.5 million we have does not leave much extra room. Moving Dumba frees up $6 million for 1 year and Fiala turned down a multi-year deal for $6 million last offseason wanting something at least in the $7-8 million range. Realistically, Fiala's gone either way. Moving Dumba allows us to spend more than league minimum on the other pieces we need.

Also, Dumba wasn't very good last year. He ranked 5th best or lower out of our 8 defensemen with 200+ minutes last season (depending on the metric you use). He actively brought down Brodin if you compare Brodin's numbers with Dumba vs with literally anyone else. The only one arguably as bad of a partner was Goligoski. If we could find someone statistically on par with Dumba for even $4 million, I'd gladly take that extra cap room. Every dollar counts for us for the next 3 years of cap hell so an extra $2 million would be amazing

I think BG will keep Dumba and hopes he has a better season he wasn't as bad as you make him out to be but he wasn't 2018 Dumba either so if he starts the season off good and the Wild are out of playoff contention then he will be moved at the trade deadline for probably more then you could get in the offseason. Then maybe he resigns as a UFA for less money.
