I like kicking around ideas to get rid of Skinner. Unfortunately, with a full nmc, a contract where he's paid several million more than he's worth (open market price), and a skill set that is...well it's gotta be a fit- a trade seems extremely unlikely.

Marner Sucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>summj_03</b></div><div>I may be overvaluing him slightly as I kind of forgot he was a rental but I can see the Sabres utilizing Levi in a trade since Uka pekka is seeming to finally pan out. Tuch while being a great player won't ever get to be near 100 points and that's not even mentioning the fact that Tuch has never played a full 82 game season in his career. A first and a goalie you may no longer need seems like a decent trade to upgrade Tuch to Marner. While Marner does suck come playoff time he may be enough to get Buffalo to make a push in the atlantic.</div></div>
Tuch is a player that wants to be here. He provides leadership, size, physicality, and a two way game. We actually need more players like him. On paper, I agree, marner is so talented, but the big picture looks different if you're the Sabres.

You are overpaying for marner, even with the extension. For 12m per year, if you are gonna pay a winger that (and you probably shouldn't on principle), he better be the only missing piece for a deep playoff run. I think there's evidence to suggest he's not that guy. I think you would be shipping out prime assets, to then sign a winger to a ufa contract (which would take up 1/7th of your payroll) to get you back to where you are right now. Pass.

Carlo Ullmark option 2
I could see something like this for the Sabres. You have to give to get, I'm good with it. I saw the other trade was peterka and Samuelsson for Carlo and beecher- kulich and a second works better for me. After the year peterka had, I don't think he'd be available, and moving our one defensive d for another one, kinda keeps us at square one (with 5 puck movers and 1 defensive d).

Which team would Marner be a fit for
Would much rather the Sabres take a shot at Tkachuk, that's what we need more than marner. It can't just be- which team has cap space and tons of assets to move.

Hearing adams talk, sounds like he expects cozens role to grow, like he's expecting him to be an all situations center, that's gonna be good at multiple things. Not a guy you give up for marner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bast</b></div><div>I don't see the Flames taking on that Skinner contract for only a 1st.
Kadri has been great, so I'm not as eagar to trade him, unless we get quality assets back.</div></div>
Fair point. I figure, for each 5 million of straight cap dump, you should ask for a mid-late first. Skinner isn't completely worthless, he's overpaid by 2-3 million (although, I totally understand not wanting him). So if he's overpaid by 6-9 million over 3 years, to me that's the equivalent of one one mid-late first plus a sweetener. The Sabres pick is currently 11th, I assume it stays there, that's pretty close to fair value. Of course that assumes that Skinner at (let's say) 6.5 million for 3 years is fair value for kadri at 7 for 5 more years (he's 33 now, so it's well into the back 9 of his career). It's all moot probably, he has a ntc, and he wants to be near Toronto.

Sabres
This is pretty unappealing honestly. This would be the softest team in the league. Defensively, this team would get caved in too. Two years ago, the Sabres played fast and loose and scored a ton off the rush, but they lost too much because the defense and the goalies were hung out to dry. Last year, they tightened up, in an attempt to play winning hockey, and they lost a bunch of rush chances, which left the Sabres trying to gain the offensive zone while the other team was waiting for them. The offense dried up, too many guys gravitate to the perimeter, not enough guys go to the ugly places. Combine that with a pp that insists on force feeding Thompson one timers on the pp (when every team in the league is waiting for it), and you get 13 years of no playoffs. The op makes this team softer and adding two rookie centers that are offensive...ruff will be a clear upgrade over granato, but this build doesn't go far.

He's a rental. I think you'll get something decent for him, the Sabres won't be trading Levi, tuch, and a first for him though. The Sabres are fine with small soft wingers, granted marner is better than them, they also aren't due 12m or so long term. Gonna have to pick a different team unless you want Skinner back as the return.

I like the targets in the vegas trade, would really add to the roster, but you are overpaying by a fair amount. I beg you, let Bryson go. Take a shot on somebody else to be your 7, you can claim Bryson off waivers at like Thanksgiving if it doesn't work out. Or better yet, don't.

I don't see Ottawa wanting marner or Nylander. As a neutral party, I can say I would pay a premium for Tkachuk. Marner and Nylander would be interesting, depending on cost to acquire and contract demands, but neither are as appealing as Tkachuk.

I know marner is good, regardless of what's going on in the playoffs, I'd say no. The Sabres have too many small- soft guys (which is made worse by having several bigger soft guys). I would make the point that it's not just tuch and Greenway, it's tuch, Greenway, and like 6 million dollars that you don't have to pay marner. I don't like marner at 12, there's not many wingers I would like at 12.

Getting a bit stronger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FlameFlameFruit</b></div><div>I considered adding Joki in the Seattle trade. I just didn't end up doing it. Joki was only moved here to clear space on the right side. And with whatever picks you get, could possibly be moved for an upgrade.
In the end, I just did it to clear him off the team.
I like the idea of Gourde. He's older, but could be a good vet presence. I also like the idea of getting a bigger 3C, though.</div></div>
I see more of what you see. I don't think all of the high end forward prospects stick though, very similar skill set, I can see a couple being moved for the help you suggested. Was watching the Leafs-Bruins games, it's a different sport from what the Sabres play. I think 3c that can legit play two way and win a draw, has got to be high on the Sabres list. Honestly, I'm not sure the Sabres are gonna do anything with their d, but I'm with ya, I would move out 2-3 d and go after a very different skill set.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Armstrong also said he wasn’t moving his first last year and then ya know like 3 days later had a massive trade on the table with the Flyers that included your 2023 1st and was going to go through until Krug vetoed it. It was also reported by many that they offered the 1st for Laughton in a deal before that. Ur GM clearly has a history of saying one thing and doing the complete opposite so maybe take his word with a grain of salt?</div></div>
Value is close I think, for the Sabres at least, I think adams was interested in cates too. For me, the Sabres are so soft that I want anybody coming in to bring their own sandpaper with em. I'm not a fan of their build as it stands- 5 puck moving d, 5 left shot d, two centers who aren't good in their own zone, a bunch of skilled forwards who avoid contact at all costs and gravitate to the Perimeter as soon as they think the coach isn't looking. I have been watching toronto-Boston, it's like watching a different sport.
